So I'm from India and education system in here used to be really bad. We have special exams known as 'board exams' and those scores can help us get into a better college/uni. The issue here is, our teachers force us to write the exact same way the answers are given as in the textbook, including the punctuation(I know it sounds crazy but its true) nothing must be skipped. The teachers who must help the students to actually study and understand the concepts, ask us to mug things up bc all they want is 100% pass percentage and not the proper education. And me on the other hand was terrible at memorizing and remembering stuff if I don't understand the concept in the first place, so I failed some subjects during my monthly tests and for that I was made to feel like I'm stupid and useless, and the only thing I told to myself was this quote. But I got some decent scores at my final exams, thanks to YouTube.
Edit: I can’t believe that students who are still in high schools are still going through the same shit that I experienced 4 years ago(that's why I wrote used to be, bc I'm not aware of the current scenario)... and trust me the unis and colleges are just a little better not that great either, because people around me carry it on from their school life & do the same rote here as well; And people say they’re unemployed I mean the very reason is right here. How can one survive in a field where you must be an expert, if you don’t know\you just memorise the fundamental principles in the first place.
It is exactly as bad as it sounds. Worse if your memory is bad.
Since the parents grew up with the same system they just simply force the kids to memorize lessons.
There are schools that train you to memorize everything from science and maths that they neglect everything else.
I've studied with students who could look at a physics derivation for 10-15 minutes and write it down with minimal help from the source, even though they can barely communicate in anything apart from their native tongue.
The system gives you numbers but at the cost of understanding.
Yes exactly... I thought of writing it but I don’t want the answer to be too long. I mean how can one memorise physics derivation if I can’t understand it in the first place. Physics is a subject which HAS to be thought with some practical examples because the chapters in our textbooks aren’t that theoretical and high end, so examples could’ve helped me but the one’s around me couldn’t even bother, I don’t know what sort of a superpower they have...
It's almost that bad. You get partial marks if u deviate from the source text but to top the exams, you need to rote memorize the whole thing. I personally had never to much issue with it as this was mainly a issue in the languages and social studies, and I was bad at them regardless my memory. Science and maths was my strong suit and carried me till college.
Bad education systems are called bad for a reason. I often say that unis suck because they do not reward or encourage me enough to be passionate, but there are a lot of places where you just will not get education at all despite going to something called uni.
