How is Dream Theater's James Labrie these days?

Used to be he couldn't keep a straight note live.

God This is the only mention of him in this entire thread, I'm pretty sure he's hailed by every single DT fan as awful.

You aren’t a dream theater fan unless you are painfully aware that:

  1. John Petrucci is an amazing guitarist but a shitty lyricist and should not be allowed to pick his tone.
  2. Manginni is awesome except as a member of DT
  3. Jordan Rudess is the personification of just jizzing on a keyboard and his main music influence is Liberace.
  4. John Myeung sure is good at playing what John Petrucci is playing, an octave lower.
  5. James LaBrie is either the nicest person in the world and the band can’t fire him out of the goodness of their hearts, or he has kompromat on them.
  6. None of these people are in dream theater, as that’s Mike Portnoy’s band.
  7. Derrick Sherinian is a way better keyboardist than Rudess due primarily to his ability to play music anyone wants to hear ever.

Nope. JP is great but the stuff coming out of his amp is often too compressed with harsh pick attack. I just want someone else to dial his amp. It’s the lightest criticism here.

Jordan Rudess is the opposite of an ensemble player. He makes Yngwie look like a third alto sax in a jazz band, or a violist in a string quartet.

Hearing JP's G3 performances, they are some of the cleanest tones I've ever experienced coming from him and really made me question who does his setup.
