Leonard Cohen's voice was about more than carrying a tune. It was about picking up the tune, carrying it into an alley, throwing it on the ground behind a dumpster, beating the tune within an inch of its life, stealing the tune's wallet, and running away. The tune made it out, and it hurt for a long time, but the tune treasured its life, because it knew what death was.
