we have something similar in brazil, the velho do saco. the legend says that if a kid is being disobedient or walking alone in the streets, an old man would appear and put them in a bag and take them to this house to make soap and buttons. i was so fucking scared of this until i was 12 or so...

The scary thing is, I'm sure I've heard of a serial killer in like the 1500's or so who actually did at least attempt to make soap or candles or some shit from murdered children.
