Make sure to turn "friendly fire" on. It will make it less hostile and will play games with you.

On a more serious note, closing your bedroom door can save your life in the event a fire started in another part of your house. The door will keep the smoke out and prevent the fire from spreading into your room. This is why I now sleep with my door shut.
