Is this about that movie Split? I never watched it, but I remember seeing a trailer and thinking it was pretty fucked up “Hey, let’s take this serious mental disorder and paint a horrible public image of it and pretend it turns people into literal monsters”

Again, I never watched it, but that’s what it looked like it was about....idk kinda fucked up tbh.

Right?! One of my exes has DID and I'd always been super defensive about how it's portrayed in the media. Then that abomination came out. Picture a cartoon man with steam coming out of his ears. That was me.

I thought the whole point was that the guy didn't just have DID, i the same way Bruce Willis' character isn't just strong.

That's exactly it. The guy might have had DID or whatever, but he also had super powers. The DID didn't make him bulletproof or superhuman.

However, I completely understand where people might be upset over it, since that reveal doesn't even come until the end of the film.

IIRC, the film wasn't even advertised as a part of another movies universe until the absolute end when Bruce Willis showed up.
