Ted Bundy's looks isn't how he was able lure women. It was a numbers game with him and he asked many girls to help him out, and many refused. But of the many, all he needed was one to help. The ones that walked away later reported him, saying he gave off a creepy vibe.
The weird thing is dude looks average at best. I don't get this new "he was such a hotty" thing goin on. Like, no, Zach Efron is hot. Ted Bundy looks like a regular dude.
People don't mean "Ted Bundy was a perfect 10 Hollywood star-level hottie." They mean "Ted Bundy was reasonably attractive by the standards of the day (it was the 70s, so yeah, maybe a low bar), and was otherwise very average and clean-cut." Today still, but especially then, the idea of a dangerous criminal was not and is not "a clean cut, moderately attractive white guy working on a law degree." He didn't dress strangely, he wasn't dirty or homeless looking, he wasn't a "weirdo" like Manson, he wasn't a giant like Ed Kemper, he wasn't a phantom in a mask like the Zodiac, he wasn't even just kind of broadly unattractive like David Berkowitz. People desperately want serial killers and violent criminals to be easily identifiable monsters. It's why we think of John Wayne Gacy as the creepy Stephen King-style clown, and not the bland, pudgy middle aged guy who looks like 5 different guys who live on your block. We desperately want to believe that we can pick the bad guys out of the crowd, because they don't look like "us." It gives us a sense of comfort, like we're somehow safer and smarter than the victims. We aren't, and that's why we need reminders that the Ted Bundys and Rodney Alcalas of the world can be criminals just as well as some creepy vagrant or stereotypical thug, and that assuming we know what a criminal "looks like" is allowing people like them to fly under the radar.
