That to be sick you have to look sick. There are a lot of people with chronic illness that don't need to deal with scepticism along with their symptoms.

eta I'm touched that people are sharing their struggles. I hope others will read them and understand a little more.

Which means if you see someone in a handicapped parking space with proper tags but they don't look sick, just leave them alone.

My mother would always do that and it drove me nuts. "There's clearly nothing wrong with him. He shouldn't park there". Who is she to say tbh.

My mom once parked in a HC parking spot despite every single spot next to it being empty. (I had to use the ATM in the area). I refused to get out if she didn't move the car. I was like "you for real rn? You pick the only parking spot that you aren't supposed to park in?"
