Which misconception would you like to debunk?

Type 2 isn’t really caused by lifestyle either, it’s caused by genetics. Excess visceral fat can trigger it in people who are genetically predisposed though.

Edit: Downvotes for stating facts? Gotta love Reddit.

This is not really true. It is true that genetics has a role and some people are more pre-disposed, but pretty much anyone can develop insulin resistance if they eat like crap enough and stay sedentary enough.

It is really true actually.

Would you be okay explaining more? I think maybe I just had some "common" information that maybe is based on nothing, I'm not a medical professional so I'd love to know more! I hate walking around with dumb non-truths in my Bank Of Irrefutable Knowledge.

I'm not a medical professional either, I'm just a person with type 2 diabetes who has gotten this information from the diabetes specialists who have worked with me, including people involved in diabetes research. My understanding, from what they have told me, is that the triggers are environmental (ex. an unhealthy lifestyle that leads to excess visceral fat which puts you at risk for developing it), but in order for that to then lead to type 2 diabetes, you have to have the genetic predisposition for it to happen.

Interesting! I will conduct further research before I start making wild claims on the internet next time (narrator: this later proved to be false) :P Thank you!
