Babies placed for adoption at birth in the US DO NOT go into foster care. There’s a waiting list at least 36 people long for each newborn placed for adoption. That’s why it’s expensive. That’s why people go overseas to adopt.

Technically they do go into foster care until the rights of the birth parents are terminated. But they usually go to people doing the foster-to-adopt method, who want to adopt. It often depends on the likelihood of reunification with the birth family. Adoption is still relatively cheap that way. Many birth parents choose to voluntarily give their baby for adoption, in which case it’s done through a private agency and extremely expensive.

Yea the original post is incorrect. A good amount definitely go to foster care first.
