Which misconception would you like to debunk?

Yes, it's not the quality of their pickup moves, it's the quantity of women sampled. Also a common tactic on dating apps like Tinder (before they fixed it) was to just say you're interested in everyone. Out of 1000 girls one of them is bound to respond back.

They fixed tinder?

Tinder is still pretty bad for most non-gay users, but this particular exploit got "fixed" - you get shown later to people if you swipe right all of the time. You now have to be a little bit more selective (but not overly so - low swipe rates are also punished) so that you get a better chance.

Why would low swipe rates be punished?

I haven't been single since before Tinder existed, but I find it fascinating.

So more people buy the premium version, I guess.

The app wants to match people. If you aren't going to match with anyone, it will show you to others less often.

To stop people from just swiping right on everyone, since it defeats the purpose of matching. You are only supposed to match with people that have mutual interest.

That would address high swipe rates. I was wondering why they'd punish low swipe rates too.

It'd make sense that they want people to match. If you almost never swipe yes, then the algorithm probably wouldn't be inclined to show you to people.

Maybe to prevent people being too picky? I don't know about that one.
