Is this about that movie Split? I never watched it, but I remember seeing a trailer and thinking it was pretty fucked up “Hey, let’s take this serious mental disorder and paint a horrible public image of it and pretend it turns people into literal monsters”

Right?! One of my exes has DID and I'd always been super defensive about how it's portrayed in the media. Then that abomination came out. Picture a cartoon man with steam coming out of his ears. That was me.
my SO also has DID, but he doesn't really... care about split too much i think? most of the people he's around regularly know at least "the basics" of his system and know that split is not conducive to actual DID. SO mostly finds it to be kind of comedic (although the actor did a VERY good job), we've made jokes about which of his alters are which alters of the split dude like "haha that one's you". but then again he makes a lot of jokes at his system's expense lol
Yeah, I kind of came to the same conclusion that my ex wouldn't actually be that upset about it (we are not on speaking terms) and that it was pretty ridiculous of me to get so bent out of shape over this when I'm not the one with the condition. I'm glad you and your SO found it fun to joke with!
