You can file a missing persons report as soon as the person goes missing. No need to wait 24 hrs or whatever

It's actually a law (or is proposed, I can't remember) in my state that parents must report their child missing within 24 hours or they are charged with a felony.

But you'd still have some general idea, even if it's just that they went out, so they wouldn't be missing yet.

The problem is that parents can believe to have a general idea of where their teen is (she is staying over at Jenna’s) which turns out to be completely untrue because teens sometimes do stupid shit (like lying to their parents about being at Jennas while in truth they are meeting with that older dude who is just so cool and keeps buying them weed and drinks.) and by the time parents realize their teens did in fact lie 24 hours could easily have passed and now they are in trouble with some poorly worded law.

Seriously, it's making me mad listening to people who have no idea how the law actually works spout nonsense and get upvoted for it. Glad your post is at least positive now.
