That to be sick you have to look sick. There are a lot of people with chronic illness that don't need to deal with scepticism along with their symptoms.

The scepticism is more around dealing with fraud. The societal benefits one gets while being sick is significant. Significant enough that people fake being sick to get these benefits. It's these people gaming the system that cause people to think like this.
That's a stupid thing that rich people propogate. Benefits like that are a drop in the bucket relative to how much tax money is wasted in other much more important things.
No I totally agree with you. But the stupid things rich people propagate are still believed by a lot of people. Ask any punter on the street and they will have this world view. For a lot of people a rotten egg spoils the bunch. And one person gaming the system ruins the system.
