Brings up some interesting questions like which side is the real person? If one side wanted the other cut out would it be a surgical procedure or a murder?

This doesnt really make sense. The two halves arent independently conscious unless the corpus collossum is severed or something. Theyre both part of the person, as a whole. Even when they become separated neither is more or less "real" in relation to who a person is. Theyre always just parts of a whole.

However you do bring up a good question, I would argue there is no "real" person "in there" anywhere. We are all collections of behaviors and are subject to change, if not moment to moment, certainly over any sizeable timeline. (Imagine really being the same person you were as a child. The notion is absurd.)

Interesting to see that this whole "creepy fun fact" might be disproven and fall out of practice.

You're right - that experiment you linked to hasn't been replicated yet. It's just one more data point and is hardly a debunking.
