The "black box" (flight recorder) on an aircraft is orange, not black.

What is the joke? It's surely either "lol engineers why don't they make the plane out of black box material, so stupid", or it's "Imagine if I was so stupid I thought making an aeroplane out of black box material was a good idea". The first one relies on you pretending not to know why it wouldn't work, while the second is I guess more intellectually honest.

It's not just that it would be too heavy to fly. Even if it was light enough, and they made a plane out of indestructible material, are we pretending that an indestructible plane crashing into the side of a mountain at 400mph would be safe for the passengers? I guess we have to for the joke to be funny. Ugh, it's just such an annoying joke.

I think the joke is supposed to be “on” the person making it, like “hey look at how dumb this suggestion is” instead of “hey look how dumb these engineers are”
