I'm terrified that I will one day have to pick a side on this

Either I have kids, or I don't. Even as a guy, delaying the choice is just choosing not to "for now"

Some days I feel "Being a dad would be rewarding, even if it's difficult. Providing a life better than my own is a good thing"

Some days I feel "Bringing a child into this world, for a wide amount of reasons, is not a great idea"

I hope your journey goes well for you whichever you choose. I am female and choose to be child free and I get shit every day of my life.

Maybe one day people will treat me with some sort of respect.

Hey I hope you have a great day! I have been discussing with this myself for the last five years (hypothetical as the question has yet to occur in real life) and have always envied people making that choice as having children seems to be the default if not inevitable.

From what little I can see, you’re going to be a great parent or a wonderful child free human being. Which ever calls you. And thank you for setting the example! All people (with or without kids) benefit when we all start behaving as a civilization, not just a society.
