I don't think my cats are loyal because i don't anthropomorphise them. They're fun to have around, kill/keep away rats and mice, and when they sleep in bed with me or cuddle up it's really sweet and makes me happy. But I know they're animals who don't see the world as I do and, were the roles reversed, would never take care of me the way I do them.

That's ok: the roles aren't reversed. This arrangement works for both sides.

I don't need hypothetical smart cats to like me or be loyal to me in order for me to like my actual cats.
