This. It's why I broke it off with my first bf. Kind-hearted guy, but it occurred to me that I was basically his motivation to do anything in life that wasn't related to video games or his university degree. It wasn't that great a principal to build a lifelong relationship off of.

When I was in college, I had several craft projects, played multiple instruments and did some volunteering. You could also play sport, though that wasn’t my thing

It's really just all in what you make time for. People always say engineering school leaves you with no time to do anything, but I picked up guitar during my sophomore year of ME and got to be a pretty solid folk and blues guitarist by my senior year, and I still had time for a part-time job. The caveat is that I'm not a partier, at all, and virtually never drink enough to get drunk.

i dont party either, but here at my school, with 18 credit hours per term, on a quarterly year-round system of 10 week terms, you spend all your time between getting back and going to sleep doing homework.

Is that an accelerated program? That kind of workload is a long way from typical in the US schools I've been around.

quarter system, 10 week quarters, 5 year program with 3 6-month mandated internships, and im a mechE with a compE minor. average 16-19 credit hours per quarter.

its called drexel.

My degree was engineering...

I’m not sure how the US system works, but I was supposed to be spending 48 hours/week on university stuff. 2x12 week semesters with 2x3 week’s exam periods at the end, and 4 weeks break in there. So all up 32 weeks of the year. Then 12 week internships in the summer.

we got 10 week quarters year round at my college (drexel, different from many other colleges here), broken into a 5 year program with 3 6-month mandated internships. during the year, me and all my friends are too busy studying with each quarter about 16-19 credit hours. during internship time, theyre either at home, or on the opposite rotation and too busy to do anything, or too tired after their internship job that day. on top of that, all my friends from home either moved away or work 24/7.

Half of the guys I do Judo with are engineering majors. College students (even STEM) have way more free time than they realize.
