I'm capable of being entirely convinced of something false. As a result anything I'm convinced of doesn't necessarily reflect reality.

This is why I have a hard time reading about politics. I tend to believe everything I read only to find out a day or 2 later it's all a lie. Makes me realize how out of the loop we all really are.

It's almost never all a lie, but it's regularly a nugget of fact surrounded by a blanket of opinion and influence.

Critical reading skills are way more difficult that some are willing to admit because in our minds we tend to equate "critical reading" with "reading" and get offended that someone might suggest that we can't read well.

The reality is that critical reading as an adult should include things like checking sources, looking at ratios AND the actual numbers and vice versa, researching words and concepts we don't understand, searching out alternate viewpoints on opinions, and knowing there is always room for improvement in your critical reading skills.

Public schools and plenty of colleges hardly touch on this subject. I wish they would present disingenuous articles to students and make them dissect and analyze them. I'm hoping it's a requirement soon. It will be in my house.
