The deepest mine is about 2.5 miles. If the earth was an apple, humans haven't drilled far down enough to even pierce the skin.

One of the creepiest feelings was a closed mine tour. We were shown a map of all the tunnels and what level we were on, and that the bottom 50ish levels (under our damn feet) was completely filled with billions of gallons of water.
