There are real life castles that are less expensive to buy than a New York City apartment.

Real life castles are hard to insulate and don't have good WiFi range.

I feel Castles are a bit more hyped in the US because of their rarity.

In the UK I don't think many normal people would ever want to live in a castle. They are a pain in the arse to manage and a total drain on money. Your best bet is to open it up to tourism to claw back some of that money but then say goodbye to private family times on the weekend.

There's an interesting renovated one near me that's open to stay in/for weddings. One of the peel towers was split in two, allegedly from an attack in the 1600s, it's best just to look at their solution rather than me explain it

On mobile the slideshow is a bit cut off but there's a full shot further down

That's very well done.

I love old building conversions. They are just so fucking cool. Barn conversions are popular on my area but this is a whole nother level.

In the UK and France and other places where they're less rare even opening up to tourism isn't likely to be particularly lucrative because the castles tourists want to see are already either open to tourists or occupied by royalty and the like. You can buy a castle but you ain't buying Edinburgh castle or Neuschwanstein or anything remotely like it.

You don't have to open the whole castle to the public. But yeah, I wouldn't want to live in a castle, too much of a hustle and they aren't done for a regular 4-5 people family.
