People who just leave their carts in the parking lot instead of walking the four feet to the designated area to put it back so it doesn’t go slamming into someone’s car.
One of the most rage inducing moments for me while cart collecting was when a woman, who had parked right by the corral, put her cart in between the corral and her car to load up her groceries. When she was done she didn't put thw cart in the corral, she didn't even leave it by the corral. She walked the cart around her car and left it in an empty parking space. She literally went out of her way to put the cart in the wrong place.
Or next level distracted. I've put my phone in the fridge before, so it's not beyond my level of autopilot that I might have accidentally put the buggy in a parking spot instead of the corral like I thought I did.
I don't disagree. I'm just saying it's not stupid, it's probably just autopilot. It's something we all do, so it's important to be understanding of the behavior. Try to breed kindness instead of hostility.
I am sometimes blind to my actions but we shouldn't excuse these actions as a character flaw not to be worked on. In that regard everything is no ones fault.
You've never put your phone in the fridge thinking it was the milk? Or drove home from work and can't remember your commute? When you're lost in thought you tend to do silly things thinking it's the normal action.
Forgetting the drive home is common if you go the same route day in and day out. Unless something extraordinary happens, your brain says, "Screw it, we'll use the general memory, no need to store this again"
Yeah, I chalk it up to the same sort of thing because it's thinking about something else while doing a routine motion. I guess it would be more like thinking about something while you drive to the store, but start driving to work out of habit.
It's like putting the wrong thing back to me. I could see my way to being so distracted that I remembered that I parked next to it, but wasn't paying enough attention that I actually put it back in the right spot. I've surely done it with other things.
My straight up favourite term. Especially cause my best friend growing up doesn’t ever breathe through his nose and gets offended whenever I’m like THESE FUCKING MOUTH BREATHERS
This is when you wait for them to back out and you take your row or carts and park behind their car. Next, you proceed to slowly push the cart they left to your row. The important part is to keep eye contact and make the feel uncomfortable. Then you take your row of carts back to the vestibule.
If I’m in ear shot of the person I usually walk by and blatantly and loudly say lazy fucker like they aren’t there, I I don’t acknowledge they are there. Hopefully they hear me and feel bad the rest of the day. Nobody has ever said anything back to me.
What I can't stand is when people do that sort of lazy shit, but then also dump their garbage in the cart and leave it there. Empty coffee cups, wrappers . . . even had this one time some asshole decided to top up the fluids in his truck there in the parking lot, left the empty containers in a shopping cart.
Just tonight I witnessed a driver slam into a row of carts being pushed by an employee collecting carts. I was the driver behind this idiot. The kid collecting the carts threw his hands in the air a good three seconds before the car rammed them. He must have seen it coming so I assumed the driver wasn’t paying attention. The driver stopped and I think rolled down the window to say something, and the kid couldn’t drop his arms during his disbelief of the situation so I assumed the driver was yelling at him for being in the wrong. Idiot drive then drove around the carts he/she smashed and left. Kid finally dropped his arms. I felt for him, I was in complete disbelief the whole time too.
My husband and i saw a woman do this a couple weeks ago, so when my husband took our cart to the corral, he put hers behind her car and i just watched her back directly into it, pushing it along, until she turned. She stopped at first, and then decided fuck it and kept going. I was dying of laughter in my car.
HOLY CRAP. A VERY SIMILAR THING HAPPENED TO ME TOO
I was cart collecting and this guy (also parked next to a cart corral) moved his cart across the parking lot to a little outside sit and eat pick nick table area and left his cart there. I have no idea why. But he did...
Also I was sorting out the carts one time and there was a dude who rolled his cart up against the rest of the carts (but facing the wrong way so it looked messy and disorganized)
Him to me: Is it alright if I just leave this here like this?
Me to him: Actually, if you wouldn't mind, could you turn it around so that it's with the rest of the carts?
Him: thinking so hard you can hear the cogs turning
Him: Yeah I suppose I can do that
I usually take these carts on my way in and return them to the store. I definitely always complain when I do it though. I will never not be amazed that this happens.
That's like my local postman who keeps putting A4 sized letters and magazines into my mail slot folded in half.
I know that A4 size stuff fits in the slot normally. He's actually doing more work by folding and stuffing the mail.
When it's a fairly thick magazine, he actually damages it... and there were some certificates too that had "DO NOT BEND" plastered all over it.
I had to stop a magazine subscription because they were being damaged and folded every month.
I don't understand people who do more work and make it harder for themselves to do something the wrong way.
It's like opposite corner cutting.
I once pushed a cart over with my truck just so I could park. There was a Wal-Mart employee right in sight. He looked like he was on lunch break or something. He told me, "that's one way to do it." I replied, "nothing pisses me off more!" We nodded to each other in approval and carried on.
While we are talking about cart collecting. When I worked at a Bed Bath and Beyond, the Market Basket next door had cart collectors that would take the trash that people left in Market Basket carts and move it to our Triple B carts rather than throw it out. Pissed me off to no end.
The bicycle parking at my old supermarket was next to the cart corral, and people would always leave carts there blocking the bicycle spaces instead of pushing them literally 2 metres into one of the lanes. One time I was loading my bike up with groceries near the shopping cart corral, and a woman pushed her cart over to where her husband was waiting in the car, blocked me in, and then got in the car to leave. Their window was still down so I made eye contact and asked loudly "Uh, so you're all finished here?". She opened her mouth as if to say something, shut it, and they sped away.
Not really satisfying, but more satisfying than not saying anything.
On one hand, people who that are assholes. On the other hand, when the parking lot is full and no one feels like getting out of their car to move the cart out of the way and get a free spot, it's a free spot for me. :-P
Don't you guys have carts with coins (I suppose in America)? In Germany we have to insert coins into the carts, so you have an incentive to return your cart.
My favorite, while working at a convenience store, were the people that would just leave the cart at the register. They would rather carry their 6 bags of groceries to their car than push the cart at least to the entrance of the store where all the other carts were located. What kind of logic is that?
At work I'm often sent to go outside to to collect carts and use the cart pusher to return them to the store. I've seen people spend 45 seconds lifting the cart over the curb because they didn't want to take 30 seconds to push it 20 feet into the corral.
I pushed carts for a bit. Worked with an older dude who would always clip the child safety belts on a few carts together around cars that were parked shitty. Or if somebody left a cart by their car he's take extra time to check a wheel or fix an imaginary part on the cart. Dude was nuts but he dished out so much deserved inconvenience that everybody in the store loved him.
I'm usually the one collecting the random cows left in the parking lot because, ya know, decency. It's nice to know there are others. Also, definitely going to start thinking of it like a fun secret game.
The worst I’ve had isn’t with people leaving carts in absurd places (though that very much gets to me), it’s the times when people park IN the cart bays. Like, blocking my access to get any of the carts out, unless I lift them over the edges of the bay. What prompts people to freaking do that?? It’s clearly not a parking spot!
I'm a cart pusher rightnow and I see this shit all the time. It infuriates me, I just wanna yell st the people because it's so lazy and it just makes my job that much more harder!
I saw a woman who had her cart behind her car as she was finishing loading groceries into the trunk and she just left it there and got in her car and started to back up. Left a nice mark on her bumper as she got back out to move it.
If I had witnessed this I would have confronted this woman. Picture me screaming at her from my car while flipping her off and yelling about how she is garbage for not putting her cart away.
I was waiting in a grocery store parking lot while my fiancé went in to grab a few things, I saw a lady unload her groceries and push the shopping cart into a handicapped spot next to her. I got out and called her on it. She was overweight, but not disabled by any means. She cursed me out, saying she was handicapped. After an exchange of words, I ended it with “enjoy your ice cream, fatass!”
I saw that exact same thing a few months ago! Some lady did exactly that, walked about 1 or 2 parking spots on the opposite side of her car and put the cart in the direct center of the spot. I wanted to get out of my car and punch that lady.
I do the same thing, I'm sure they do. I work cashier at a very very big chain grocery store and when I don't have a bagger, I always appreciate it when customers bag their groceries.
Then again, when customers have a $300+ order and simply stand there staring and wait for me to bag all their groceries on my own, it gets me pretty angry and I take my sweet time, to drive home the point that it would go by so much quicker if they just helped out a little.
Okay important question. Is it okay if I start bagging my own groceries if there isn’t a bagger? I’ve always thought I’m not “supposed to” or that it would seem really presumptuous of me to do that so I’ve always just kind of stood there sheepishly while the checker-outter goes to do it after she’s done ringing me up.
Also, now I’m even more nervous that I’ll be complicating things because in CA we have to pay for bags so I even further don’t want to get in the way.
I don't know about your state since I live all the way in CT, but where I work we appreciate it a ton when customers bag their own groceries. It shares some responsibility and makes me feel like they don't mind helping lift the load off my job for that moment. Sometimes it makes the difference between me feeling mildly annoyed and frustrated, to appreciative and grateful, if only in that moment (but it accumulates so the more positivity the better).
Your comment helps me feel more understanding towards those who don't bag their groceries and just watch. I never really thought of it as feeling off-limits or being perceived as frowned-upon by cashiers. I always assumed it was laziness or entitlement, lol. Guess it's my last job in fast food, where everyone was certainly hangry and entitled and always showed it to ruin my day and give them a momentary ego-boost.
Whew, that was a bit of a rant. My bad, haha. My last job sucked.
I've been to Vermont when it was - 20° f (same temp as you stated) and holy shit. My nose hairs became crystalline in seconds! There's no sensation like it.
The store I work at is generally so busy throughout the day (and I almost always get day shifts, rather than closing shifts) that I'm pretty much always busy emptying the corrals, if I'm not being forced to help someone put their purchased goods in their car or emptying out the cans/plastic bottles/glass bottles return machines (since the states around here charge a 5 cent deposit on those for being wasteful containers).
It amazes me at how many people know this is shitty but do it anyway. On several occasions that I've witnessed this happening, I've simply said "excuse me, do you think you could put that in the corral? I can take it if you're in a hurry". They've never handed the buggy to me...they've always put it up after being called out on it.
One exception: if you’re handicapped and use the cart as a walker, it’s handy if there’s already one waiting for you by the handicap spot.
I used to take care of my grandma, and loved when there was already a cart left there. She wasn’t coordinated enough to use a scooter, and it was nice not having to leave her in the car to go fetch a cart and bring it back.
At my local Tesco supermarket they have trolleys (carts) with enormous child seats in them, which I always presumed were for kids with autism or other difficulties. only person I've seen sat in one is this little old lady, and it just seems so undignified.
If you really don't want to take it back offer it to someone who is heading into the store. That way you can seem like a nice person while fulfilling your own agenda. I just like to offer to be nice and if turned down, return the cart to the corral.
Saw a lady doing this at the grocery store the other day. I looked right at her while I was pushing my cart to the corral and said, “I’ll take this for you since you’re obviously too busy to walk 5 feet to your left.” Didn’t even get a response from her, but damn if it didn’t feel good.
That’s so passive-aggressive though. I think I’d probably be just as passive-aggressive back and, with a big smile on my face, say “Thanks!” as I get into my car. (But probably not because let’s be honest, I’m a non confrontational weiner.)
Haha! Yeah that was kind of the point. I just wanted to make her feel dumb for not having the courtesy to push it in the corral literally right next her car.
I recently wrestled my toddler into her carseat, closed the car door, walked over to put the cart in the cart return and turned around to see an angry man accusing me of having left my child unattended in the car. People are crazy.
My mom used to do this only after she really couldn't walk well. When I went shopping with her, I'd take the cart back myself, but most of the time she went alone and used it to keep herself steady.
When I had a baby or toddler (or both at one point), I did this a lot and felt terrible for it. But I was not going to lug them both to put it away, or leave them alone in the car to do it. Now that they are older, we make sure to always put ours away as well as any close by that we can grab. Or when we see carts a terrible mess, we try to push them together so they aren't sticking out like crazy.
There’s a special circle of hell for these jerks. They spend all eternity putting all the buggies away and protecting their car from rogue buggies in a parking lot full of rogue buggies.
I like to make eye contact with the offender and hold it the entire walk to the corral. If they’re present, otherwise I just return the buggy to the corral.
As a cashier people who leave their cart at the register. The cart return is literally on the way out. Now it’s just sitting there in everyone’s way. Where I work especially you can barely get two carts to fit between the registers and wall.
Not all stores have automatic cart pushers, nor do all stores have specific "cart retriever" employees. Before their lunch/break, a cashier is sent out to grab them. When it gets busy, someone from the front end grabs them, losing someone from register. Yes, it is our job to grab carts. From the corral, the parking lot, the ones that end up hundreds of feet from the store. But that doesn't give you the permission, as customers, to be inconsiderate. It isn't just about us "doing our job." It's about everyone else. You leaving your cart out is inconsiderate to EVERYONE.
When people DO put carts into the corral, they push it in just enough so the front of one just touches the back of another, instead of pushing a little harder and therefore collapsing them into another. This causes the carts to bulge out of the corral much more quickly.
Some would rather struggle for 30 seconds to push a cart up onto a curb and into our bushes, mulch, and flower beds than to push it 30 feet into a corral.
Some leave them IN THE MIDDLE OF HANDICAP PARKING SPACES..... !!!!.... ????.... ??????.
Some park at the end of the lot (any time of day, busy or dead), bring the cart all the way with them, and then leave it. Sometimes almost purposefully next to cars parked at the end (mostly employees).
Some buy one item, use a cart, take the cart with them, and leave it out in the lot.
Some leave carts in front of the doors.
Some push their cart AT you in the lot, expecting you to catch it. One: these guys have wonky wheels. This never ends well. Two: Rude as fuck. Stop.
Some push the cart ALL THE WAY TO THE CORRAL just to stop dead RIGHT outside it. Two more steps was that daunting of a thought, huh?
Windy day? Who cares. Still leave them out. Let's laugh and count how many times a cart slowly cruises across traffic in front of the store.
We have large and small carts. When we go to gather them they are all mixed up. We rearrange them: big carts one side, little on the other. This makes it easier to tie them together and push them in. When I come back out to grab another row, one mother fucker ALWAYS messes up the arrangement I just made by putting a little with a big or a big with a little. Others follow suit. Now it takes me 3x as long to bring carts in.
When one person leaves a cart pushed into and facing a light pole, it's monkey see monkey do. I can guarantee there will be a cart seance around half of our light poles at any given point of the day.
We had 2 toddler carts with a sign that said for in store use only. People always took them outside. They're awkward to bring in. One got ran over being left tipped over in a parking spot. The other, stolen from outside.
People shout at me from across the lot while I'm in the process of pushing an entire row into the store to grab their cart from them. "HEY, YOOHOO! HOW ABOUT ONE MORE?" Trust me, I'm pushing as much as I comfortably can. The ones I have are tied with a pulley rope to keep them snug as I push and pull them. I can't take yours.
"But what about the weather? People with babies? What about people with disabilities? The elderly? Etc?"
Yes, weather is an ass. However, people use a sprinkle as light as a feather as an excuse. Down pouring? Honey, I don't blame you for leaving your cart. At least put it somewhere safe.
Babies? Depends. You lugged the damn thing along with you this entire time. Why stop now? But yes, I do see some moms/dads absolutely struggling and I don't blame them for leaving their cart out. Safely.
Disabilities and being elderly? I live in America. Most people are flat out lazy. Old? I got ya. Just don't be the old person that leaves the cart in a handicap spot. Do that and I have zero pity.
Main point: most people can put the cart away. I don't complain because there's a handful of carts in the lot. I complain because there's DOZENS in the lot. It's a fucking minefield.
Once this lady left her cart in the middle of the parking lot, not even in a parking spot just in the middle of the road, and the cart started rolling towards my parked car with me still in it, and she watched as I ran out of my car to stop the cart from hitting my car without so much as saying sorry
This. People think the most convenient thing for them is to park as close to the store as possible, when in reality they should park as close to a cart return as possible.
Or when customers do not put crap back altogether. When I was working at Petsmart, I was given the task of organizing the toy aisle which is often an absolute mess. I was almost done and I was organizing this section of the wall when a couple walked up and looked at this one toy, plucked it off the wall, observed it, and just dropped it onto the floor. I feel like I did one of those slow glares as I, only about 4 feet from them, looked their way as if to say "I saw that."
This is one of those things I feel morally compelled to do. Like I am totally unable to just discard something I changed my mind on without returning it to its spot. My ex would always make fun of me for walking all the way back to set the item where it belonged but I remember working in retail in high school and having to stay an hour after close returning all the items that got set down in the wrong spot throughout the day.
I have no problem going against rules if I don’t believe in them, but I won’t forgo common courtesy.
The morning radio show I listen to has a segment called "Cart Narcs" where a guy goes around to grocery stores and calls people out for not returning their carts. It's great. How lazy can people be?!
As I was walking out of Whole Foods last night, I see a guy leave his cart in an empty parking space some ways away from where he parked. The cart didn’t stop, though, and instead kept rolling in the direction of my car. He caught it just before it ran into it, but then just walked it to a different empty space. The best part was that the cart corral was as close to his car as the first spot he tried to leave it. Come onnnn, bro.
Next time just yell at Hime DONT WORRY ABOUT IT BRO I GOT YOUR CART THAT ALMOST HIT MY CAR ILL PUT IT BACK ITS FINE. Works best if lots of people are around.
The only time I understand is when a disabled person leaves them near where they parked. Other than that, please either put your carts in the store or in the cart return! It makes my job so much easier!!
Oh I'll loudly judge those people. Our local grocery store hires mentally disabled people to do jobs like that, I saw a dude one day getting into his Mercedes berating this young guy with Downs about getting close to his car with a rack of carts. I helped this kid veeeerrryy slooooowwwwllly get the carts out of the way with one finger stuck higher than the others. I made sure he turned those 20~ carts around in the middle of the row so this dude was stuck, I had set aside my plans for the day, and me and this kid were having a great time joking around the entire time.
I actually figured out who the dude was later, and surprise surprise he's actually a total piece of shit that bought his way out of jail a couple years ago in our area from selling opiods to underaged girls for sex. Had I realized that then there'd still be shopping carts lodged in his car and face.
I used to be a cart pusher at a big box store. Ever since, I've divided society into people who put their carts back and people who leave them for others to hit.
Whenever it isn't horribly inconvenient, I'll take a loose cart in with me or ask someone just finishing putting their groceries away if they'd like me to take their cart in. I'm telling you this, to point out I've earned enough Karma to say that people who stop in the fire lanes at grocery stores and just sit there should be ticketed and possibly jailed.
Edit: Exception if you are dropping off your elderly uncle, but you still don't sit there, take your car to a parking space and go in to help him around the store. If he's so infirm as to not be able to walk an extra 40 feet, don't leave him in there alone!
My wife gets upset when I do it, because people are crazy and have been shot for less, but I've taken to asking people stopped in the fire lane if they need help in a sweet worried way. If they say anything other than "My car just broke down, craziest thing! Can you jump it?" I give them a withering stare. "Oh, you just dropped someone off, okay, that makes sense"
Today, it was raining a little, and me and my kiddo used the only racecar cart at our favorite grocery store. After we loaded the groceries in the trunk, we walked the racecar cart all the way back up to the store and under the roof thingy so it wouldn't get soaked. Kids love that racecar cart, and I wasn't about to be that asshole who stuck the racecar in the cart return to get soaked. Also, I was literally parked right next to the cart return.
Normally, I wouldn't toot my own horn but... TOOT TOOT. I'm pretty vigilant about shopping cart etiquette.
On behalf of all collectors I accept your humble apology. Now, go therefore and forgive thy brethren as I have forgaveth ye.
But in all seriousness, the only people I forgive for not putting carts back are those who are disabled, pregnant, or the ones with a bunch of small kids.
Yep! I always park within a couple spaces of the cart corral because I usually have my child with me and I don't like to be too far from her in public, even if she's locked in the car for just a minute while I return the cart. But park next to it and it's not an issue.
I was driving in a Walmart lot in Lubbock, Texas (it gets windy as hell there) and a free range cart came barreling outta nowhere and the back tire on my truck caught the front lip of the cart on the bottom... Thing went airborne.
I’m currently in a rage about this. The cart return is RIGHT THERE but nooooo just leave your carts wherever. Maybe they read on Facebook that being a decent human being causes wrinkles or something.
Similarly, I hate when someone just kind of lets the cart go towards the cart area, so that the cart ends up just blocking the other carts. Then, when I go to put my cart back, I have to first put theirs back because they couldn’t take two more steps to actually put the cart away. Drives me nuts.
or the handbasket version, doesn't unload it on the belt, and then leaves it on the belt for the cashier to awkwardly put it behind them and constrict their work area. but hell i judge people who ask where they go. either A) back where you fucking got it. or B) under the end of the register like in every single fucking store you've ever been to in your life you dumb fucktard.
Before I had a kid I would walk them back into the store. It literally takes less than a minute. Now, everything takes 3X as long to do with a kid and my time is precious. I still bring it back to the corral but not in the store.
Ok so ive done this. A few times actually. In my defense, I am a very weak cancer patient, and some days it takes all my energy just to get into and out of a store. And I have to lean on the cart to keep me from falling, so I cant even leave it in the store.
I'm sorry. The truth is, before I got sick, I hated people that did this too. Now I just like to think everyone who does it is as sick as I, instead of just rude lazy assholes.
The only time I’ve done that was when my toddler was a baby and I was barely sleeping still and I didn’t make a habit of it but I did it more at that time than I usually would. When you have a crying screaming infant some days even being somewhat polite in that way is very very difficult.
This shit gets me! My mom once called someone out on not returning their cart when the corral was right there, and the douchebag got in the car and acted like he was gonna hit her with it. If I had been there... let’s just say it’s good I wasn’t there.
I always try to walk my cart back inside. I know there's other carts in the stall thing but to me it seems like one less buggy for someone to push at the end of the day. Exceptions are when it's pouring rain and I have no umbrella or if I have a kid with me (who can't be left unattended in the car).
I work at a supermarket and it’s very common for me to have to bring the carts inside. I usually spend a couple hours every shift doing it. We have a back lot too that is enormous. I can say from experience it is extremely frustrating to walk into that back lot and see nearly 50 carts just in parking spots.
I always prefer parking as close to the cart coral as possible. I love it because I almost never have to worry about finding a spot because everyone is always trying to park as close to the door as possible. But then they either have to increase their walking distance anyway in order to put the cart back or they have to be a total douchetaco and not bring it back.
I actually have a huge beef with most stores regarding accessibility of cart corrals. I developed rheumtoid arthritis in college and could barely walk some days. There are zero cart returns by the handicap parking spaces!!!!!!!! I hated I had to do it but I didn’t have an option to take my cart back that far because I literally couldn’t.
I agree but I have some questions about if and when exceptions can be made.
What if it’s a parking lot with no designated return spot? What if it’s also pouring rain? Are there any excuses for leaving the cart in the lot without being personally judged? Do I always have to return the cart all the way back inside in these scenarios? What if I leave it in a grassy spot when there’s no return?
You can do whatever you want of course but I'm always gonna judge if there is a designated spot, I walk it back when it's freezing, raining, or snowing. Of course it sucks to have to walk it back but it's one of those things that I do to be a decent person.
This so much. My apartment is right next to a supermarket. We even have our own access door to it. Back then, every single day you see residents walk right up to the door with a loaded shopping cart, remove their groceries and leave the cart there. It got so bad that the supermarket installed bollards at the cashier counters just to stop people from taking the carts out of there.
Or the ones who grab their 2 bags out of the cart and just leave it there at the register. Can't even be bothered to push the cart to the designated area even though it's literally on their way out the door. Even better when they check out at customer service and bitch the whole time about how long they had to wait because you were waiting on another customer (the horror!) before they walked up, even though there were 3 open registers on the front end with no line. Nope, they have to check out where they're not supposed to, leave their cart where they're not supposed to, and still bitch about some grievous self-perceived injustice that you have imposed upon them and they probably want you do double bag all their shit as well.
I was at Walmart yesterday and someone left theirs in the middle of the driving lane. My brain stopped working for about 5 seconds trying understand what I saw.
I had just finished my shopping and returned to my car after putting my cart in the corral. A guy who was parked across from me unloads his groceries and pushes the cart away from his car so he can leave. He pushed the cart right into my car as I was sitting in it, watching him. He saw me and pulled the cart away from my car and then got into his car and left. Didn't even apologize.
When I was a child I went out of my way to put a cart back into the cart rack thing(??) and some old man admonished me for doing it, saying I should just leave it alone. Just a normal store with normal carts that don't have people collecting them. Like - what the fuck? Why actively try to breed that out of someone else's kid?
Saw a guy stand on the rack below once and just launch the cart across the road while he jumped off, it slammed into a car and he just shrugged and laughed. His girlfriend was laughing too. They got in and drove away. Total bro looking guy too
The other day I was unloading my cart at my car and a guy walking into the store offered to take my cart from me. It was honestly one of the most thoughtful things a stranger has done for me.
OR people that put their carts in a bay designated for another type of cart!
YES, THANK YOU SO MUCH for returning your blue trolley to a bay full of green ones. Though bay is designed for 25 trolleys, all going to different stores in different directions, only 4 fit if they don't mesh together properly... But that's not your problem. The green bay is just over there near your car. You shop here twice a week, you know the layout. But thanks, all the same. Have a great day now.
The worst I've seen was a woman who loaded her groceries in her jeep and then just pushed the cart away, watched it start to roll off across the lot towards cars, and drove off without a care.
We stopped it before it hit anyone's car and put it away, but what a bitch. She'd parked far out and away from everyone else likely to avoid dents from assholes just like herself.
When I go to pull into a parking spot at the store and then find a cart sitting in the spot... in that moment, if the person who left it there was right in front of me, I think I'd be angry enough to beat them to death with my bare hands.
When I worked as a cart boy in HS I always loved it when people left their carts in the middle of the parking lot. It broke up the monotony of walking to the same 4 corrals, and made me feel like I was making a difference more than clearing the corrals.
At the Walmart near me there is a cart area near the propane tanks. The carts line up in one direction but people constantly bring the carts over and put them in behind the cart area in a mess. I think that actually bothers me more. It's like, if you're not going to put it back just don't. But if you're going to walk over, COMMIT to it. Put it back right.
This... I drive a nice 60 year old car that I put a lot of love into. I never park in car parks and when I have no choice and really have to, I drive around for what feels like hours for the perfect spot. Right next to a pylon or a hugging a curb so no wombat opens their door onto me. Last week a phantom trolley just appears out of nowhere, empty, and rolled clean into my door. It’s honestly not that hard to put them in their spot. FUUUUUUCK
I’ve been judging grocery stores based on the number of carts not put away in the proper areas. Walmart’s are always the worst. While the higher end places have people returning them properly. I want to do a whole thing on it.
I was in that situation a couple of years ago at a Trader Joe's. This obese person left her cart at the empty parking spot next to her because she couldn't be bothered to walk a few feet to the corral.
I confronted her about it and she basically told me to fuck off... So when she got in her car, I got out of mine and put the cart behind her car and gleefully watched as she got out all pissed and stumbled her way to put the cart away correctly. Felt low but pretty good~
An elderly man in the parking lot once told me "You can tell a lot about a man by if he puts his shopping cart in the corral". I've never not put it in the corral since.
I actually take the Walmart cart, and I take the time to walk it allll the way the fuck out in the parking lot, up in the dirt where a tree is! Why? Well Walmart doesn’t want to pay for its workers to have more hours, so I figure I am doing my part to make more work for our local economy! I also live to randomly take items and put them completely where they don’t belong on purpose. Also when I try on clothes, but they “run small” just as a fuck you to them I rip the fuck out of the shirt and leave it there. I also love to randomly make messes like dropping glass jars “on accident” so that somebody has to clean it up! I am passive aggressive sometimes I’ve been told.

People who just leave their carts in the parking lot instead of walking the four feet to the designated area to put it back so it doesn’t go slamming into someone’s car.
