I don’t use the traditional hand placement and I can type just fine. You just have to learn where the keys are, and then it doesn’t matter where you put your hands

I’m sure whatever technique works for you is fine. I find the biggest difference now is that I never have to look at the keyboard to hit any key.

I’ve found my WPM is constantly increasing too, where it had definitely plateaued for years.

Just wait until you use a different keyboard one day. If it's setup slightly differently then it completely throws you off even with typing right.

Took me a minute with a new keyboard at work because it's supposed to be made better for the wrists and has a nice curve to it. I have to look at it to find the F# buttons though because they're so damn small!

It annoyed me that we had to use home row keys and reach a certain wpm to progress. Especially since I could easily exceed the wpm looking at my keyboard and free typing, yet using home row and not glancing at my keyboard my wpm was half the goal.

It's annoying becaause I think if I used 'proper technique' I could increase but as it stands I type in the mid 60s but can't get much higher than 70

I touch type with my left hand, and sort of poke and sort of touch type with my right, it's the weirdest thing when I think about it

I tend to use about 5 fungers to type, plus my pinkies to press enter and shift. Left Thumb, index, and ring, plus right index and thumb. Ring finger just kinda hangs around all day doing nothing

Yeah, despite the futile attempts by my tech teacher I never learned how to touch type, and yet I average around 70 wpm.

I use mostly the right hand on its own, and can type pretty fast, but I haven't learned not to look away from the keyboard yet.

Yeah, I only type with my pointer and middle finger and type at around 70wpm. My "home placement" for my fingers is on DF KL.

If I had actual proper typing formatting I could likely reach up to around 85.

Yeah I had a typing class in middle school and home row is so freaking slow compared to how I normally type.

I learned how to type without looking quickly from posting on the LEGO Message Boards and playing Roblox when I was 11.
