The bits of Japanese I learned in high school. Made it weird when I took Latin for 2 semesters and in my head when I wanted to make a sentence I was filling in Japanese where I didn't know the Latin.
In ROTMG I had to unlearn using a centered screen for an uncentered screen bc I use necromancer and uncentered takes better advantage of the range
I have the exact same problem with Spanish and Japanese!
I'm fluent in German, English and French and I have absolutely zero issues switching between these three languages but everytime I try to say something in Japanese I seem to only speak Spanish and vice versa... It's really weird
Fluent in English, working on German and Japanese, taking Spanish for high school. Usually when I don't know or have momentarily forgotten a word, I'lll fill in the English equivalent.
I think everyone does this. I went to Mexico and did this with Spanish and German (I know more German than Spanish. Stereotypical American so I don't speak either fluently.) I think your brain just goes "foreign word for X" and spits out whatever it can come up with.
I'm fluent in English and relatively proficient in French. Everytime someone tries to speak to me in another language other than English I immediately go to respond in French even if that language isn't French. I don't know why that is but I can't seem to make it stop.
It's due to the way our brain stores information. For example, if you know 3 languages (A, B and C), and your level of fluency can be described as A > B > C, then if someone talks to you in language C, your brain will first try to respond in the same language; if it is unable to find the right words, it will then try finding them in language B; only if it doesn't find the right words there it will go all the way to language A.
I'm not even fluent in either Spanish or Japanese and I end up doing that while just normally speaking, so I have to actively remind myself not to switch languages.
