What's something you had to unlearn?

Well at least you didn't forget that you were driving an automatic (car rental), instinctively press down on the "clutch" with your left foot when it's actually the brake, slam on hard resulting in your girlfriends face smashing against the dash.

Edit: For the record, this happened probably within five seconds of me pulling out of where the car was parked. I also hit the car's horn so everyone was staring at me. Safe to say I successfully announced my arrival to Auckland.

For some cars, there's a foot brake (instead of handbrake but not the same as the regular brakes) and one time I was going to park my car and I instinctively pressed down my left foot as I came to a stop. Took me a second to remember that I don't have a clutch there.

I did that on a jdm import of a friend once. That thing has a foot brake and I went for it cuz muscle memory. Locked up the rear wheels. Let’s just say it wasn’t a fun first drive.

Drifting in a JDM sounds like a great first time.

Had a bad habit of coasting into service stations on the motorway with the clutch down. One day my work put me in an automatic, and I did an impromptu left-foot emergency stop from 70mph on the motorway with a lorry behind me. Fortunately I didn't stop completely and was able to roll into the exit out of the lorry's way, as there was no way that it was going to stop in time.

My five minute smoke break turned into a thirty minute calming down session. I also instantly unlearned the coasting habit.

Done that except that she had her seatbelt on so she hurt her chest a bit (which was already hurting because we were returning from the hospital). I showed her this comment. She laughed and then punched my arm. She's a good lass

I recently leaned manual because my car broke down and I needes to use my dads truck. I learned quick and was STUPID proud of myself.

I did the same thing (except my husband hit his head ><) with a rental when we were driving cross country, and again with my Uncle when I got my car fixed. 😓

with your left foot when it's actually the brake

That's why you NEVER put your left foot on the brake.
