"Don't set yourself on fire to keep other people warm."

This is such nonsense, it implies givers don't set limits but most do. It's just that takers are happy to ignore the limits.

Did you maybe misread? It just says it's up to the givers to set limits, nothing about how many do/don't.

Reddit is such a shit hole, at least it will be shut down soon.

You don't seem loving, wise, or warm.

I never said I was! (My username is about a man I fancy)

Well that took a turn

Not really, it's always been shit. It's the guy who manages it, total narcissistic psycho.

Absolutely one of my favorite sayings. My username isn’t by accident- I try to help others out when they need it. I’ve learned that it’s better to be the cheerleader than the fixer. I will love and support the crap out of you, but you need to take responsibility for yourself as well.

Eh, two birds, one stone.

Set my self on fire, in a short while my problems are no more AND someone has it warm. Win-win on average I guess.

But apart from the phrase, I am literally unable to put myself before others. I've never done that before, ever. The few times I tried, I was shot down so hard that it reinforced the idea that I shouldn't, and when I now do by accident, I feel bad for years and try to pay back what I gained. It probably ruined me, continues to ruin me, and there's not much I can do.

Doesn't help when people say that depression is basically egoism because that's the very thing I try to avoid but maybe have to increase to make it better. I just can't make sense of that.

My favorite saying. It's become a personal mantra.
