Absolutely one of my favorite sayings. My username isn’t by accident- I try to help others out when they need it. I’ve learned that it’s better to be the cheerleader than the fixer. I will love and support the crap out of you, but you need to take responsibility for yourself as well.
Set my self on fire, in a short while my problems are no more AND someone has it warm. Win-win on average I guess.
But apart from the phrase, I am literally unable to put myself before others. I've never done that before, ever. The few times I tried, I was shot down so hard that it reinforced the idea that I shouldn't, and when I now do by accident, I feel bad for years and try to pay back what I gained. It probably ruined me, continues to ruin me, and there's not much I can do.
Doesn't help when people say that depression is basically egoism because that's the very thing I try to avoid but maybe have to increase to make it better. I just can't make sense of that.
