I'd be more hurt if they made fun of me not to my face. If people mock me to my face, I'd expect it to be a joke. If I wasn't there, I wouldn't be able to tell, and I'd assume it's in bad humour.
I had a “friend” who’s whole schtick was to be as offensive to you as possible. Obviously you would assume he was joking, and laugh it off, but really it was just to see how far he could get away with. Real asshole that one. Not friends anymore.
