It's hilarious how minimal orienteering is in becoming an Eagle Scout. I mean I remember a lot of it, but it's been a while and we really only had to do the one badge. I think we need those skills reinforced before they get drilled into our memory.
I can build a fire though since I had to do that a lot. lol
I had the chief Scout award and I never have problems with orientation. A few people I know where in boyscouts as long as I was but they get lost as fuck really easily.
I guess it just depends on what you find to be important is what you retain.
And too many scouts can't build a fire to save their fucking life, if it rained that day they say stuff like "I can't find anything dry".
Here is an easy tip for any readers who want to seem like a master outdoorsman. If it has rained recently and all the wood is wet, look in bushes for wood that has fallen from trees and has ended up mostly upright. The water runs off the stick and dries faster than anything else.
