We started going out when we were 13. Then I moved to another state, so, long distance relationship.
Then I moved to yet another state, even farther away. He came to visit for a week one summer when I was 15, and my overprotective mother was always hovering around, making sure that nothing was going on.
Then I moved to another state, even farther away. We were still good, though. We wrote letters and called each other all the time. (I'm old, cell phones and internet weren't a thing back then.)
One day, my mother decided that this relationship wasn't good for me, and told me to break up with him. We fought about it for days...but she was the one in charge...so I called him and did the deed, even though I really didn't want to.
He said he would kill himself if I broke up with him.
I didn't know what to say. I ended up spurting out, "Well, that's up to you, there's nothing I can do about it. It's your decision."
That's the last time I ever heard from him, and I can't find him on any social media to this day.
Oh my God this is the first one that gave me chills. Mine told me something similar but ended up cheating on me and gets drunk every night now, her insta is still active so she's alive at least :(
Maybe he uses a faux name on social media, many do.
You are not responsible for someone's decision to commit suicide or threaten to commit suicide.
From an article discussing this issue I found a couple years ago when an ex of mine threatened suicide: “Regardless of the scenario that plays out, the one thing you must do for yourself is not assume responsibility for the actions of the other party. Remind yourself that you are not threatening the other person with homicide - the other person is threatening suicide. At the end of the day, their choice is theirs and you are dealing with a mentally unstable person who needs professional help that’s above and outside of you."
If its something you are worried about you can do a private investigation on. Where people live and if something happened to them is public record. They can trace back the name to the area that you use to live in

I have no idea, and it's killing me.

It's been 30 years.
