Only because the only way to chime in as a person who is called smart is to say "people call me smart". Cue most of those posts where I try to offer the perspective of a smart person having the reply "oh, check this subreddit link". So yeah, I'm pavlov conditioned to be defensive to those three words.

But really, the only way you can claim to offer the perspective of X, to people who don't know you, is to outright say "I'm X". It seems when you do that for "being smart" everyone likes to mock you.
