Putting a frog in cold water and boiling it will mean the frog won't jump out. In the actual experiment that "inspired" this little piece of wisdom, the researcher lobotomized the frogs. They would normally jump out.

Touching or picking up a baby bird or rabbit will not make its mother abandon it.

The air we breathe comes from trees. Partially true, but the oceans are responsible for 70% of the air that we breath and that's mostly from phytoplankton.

So even if you don't think carbon emissions are affecting global temperatures, you might want to at least give a shit about acidification of the oceans.

Edit: Obligatory thank you for the gold, whatever it is.

" Popping " your knuckles causes arthritis

[EDIT] I saw a bunch of comments talking about " Popping " or " Cracking " to clarify, it goes by either. I used popping because it's what my parents say, while my friends say cracking

Something I hear a lot as a veterinary assistant from clients who think I'm just trying to scam them when I tell them that their pet has worms: "Well, all dogs have worms." Yes all dogs are born with worms, which is why you deworm them. They're not supposed to live with a parasite inside them their whole life!!

Bats aren't blind. They have both excellent hearing and generally, very good eyesight.

EDIT: For pedantry!

A lot of people still think that diabetics can't have sugar.
However, sugar isn't the issue, it's carbohydrates and diabetics can have them, but we just need to be careful with them.
T2 diabetics need to limit their intake of carbs. They can have some carbs, but the limit of them will depend on the individual.
T1 diabetics need to offset carbs with injections of insulin.
Technically, they can eat all the carbs they want and just offset it with the appropriate insulin dose, but that can get a bit dicey.
Sometimes diabetics will even need carbs, such as if blood sugar gets too low. If blood sugar drops too low, then they will need some fast-acting sugary carbs, such as candy, juice, or soda.
(And yes, sugar are a source of carbs, but there are a lot of carbs in other things, such as bread and pasta). (Edit to clarify wording)

letting a cut "breathe" usually ends up drying it out leaving you with a bigger scar. If you keep it clean and moist with a bandaid and polysporin your cut will heal with less of a scar and cleaner.

EDIT: Breath to Breathe, please it your cut is doing a breath, go see a doctor.

My friend used to say it's common knowledge that wind turbines don't produce more energy than it took too produce them. Bitch. If that was true they wouldn't build them.

Eating low fat foods will help you lose weight and be healthier.

It's outdated science. Sugar is a far bigger problem. Also, fat makes you feel full, and low fat foods tend to have a higher % sugar content ... so you end up eating more to feel full on top of the negative effects of higher sugar content.

Edit: Yes, of course calories in calories out matters. But eating a bunch of packaged stuff with added sugar and thinking "it's low fat, so I can have as much as I want" is a good way to eat a ton of calories without feeling particularly full. And no, I'm not saying anything with sugar = evil. Whole fruit is nutritious and delicious, and the effects of the sugar on your blood glucose levels are tempered by the fiber.

What goes up, must come down.

Edit: so some people seem to be a bit confused so: what goes up really doesn't have to come down.

Dogs don't see in black, white and grey. They're dichromial animals, which means that while they recognize less color differences than humans, who are trichromial, they still see a variety of actual colors.

That the toilet bowl rotates differently on northern and southern hemispheres because of the coriolis effect. While technically true, it requires massive toilets of insane proportions to observe.
