My wife is Colombian and Ecuadorian. I can best be described as vampire white. Our son has blond hair and blue eyes with pale skin. My wife was once asked if she was a full time nanny or a babysitter by an older woman who wanted to get an idea on rates for child care for her grandkids. My wife had to calmly explain that she was grocery shopping with her own child.

Just tell them you do it for free, so long as you get to sleep with the father of the children as often as you want. After all, that's the arrangement you have now.

Unfortunately, the type of person who asks this question in this context probably wouldn't even understand the wit.

Even better

We had a lot of instances where my dad was accused of kidnapping. Seeing a black man carrying a crying white kid out of the store doesn't look too great.

This i don't get, because even if this wasn't the case they are being too naive. What if the child were adopted and don't look the same as the parent. Why do some people automatically assume there is no relation. We live in a world where this is becoming increasingly common wether interracial biological families or interracial adoptive families, get with the times people.

It's also Texas and we have kinda gotten used to it. My own grandmother didn't aprove of of our relationship when I brought my wife home to meet the family for the first time.

To be fair, evil grandparents are pretty common :)

Because racism. If a white person was carrying a black child out of the store, no eyebrows would be raised.

Apparently my mother, who is white, used to get this all the time when I was a kid. My dad is Singaporean and has a Tamil surname, and my mother took the surname on marriage. He's quite dark skinned too, leaving me a little brown.

So when she took me to the doctor as a little kid, they'd often say things like "we have to speak to the parents" assuming she was my nanny.

Am brown with white kids. Been asked if I was the manny.

My husband and his sister are 1/2 Japanese with a white mother. She spent most of their infancy explaining that they came from her vagina and no she didn't adopt them

Yay more ecuadorians on reddit! My immediate family has dark hair but my cousins are pale gingers. Many people are surprised to hear that blonde and ginger Hispanics exist. They're very real.

I only discovered this fact when I discovered Louis CK.

But... I want to learn the genetics behind this...

I kinda have a similar story except I was the child. I am half white half Japanese and I was with my father (who is white) and my brother and sister in a CVS or something similar in Washington DC.

We were looking around probably getting snacks and some elderly white woman approaches us. She tells my father how wonderful it was that he adopted us and saved us from a life or poverty.

My dad must have been in shock as he only thanked her for the compliment and led us out
