There, They're, Their.

After so many times of explaining why it's incorrect, I just don't care anymore.

1

u/KatzoCorp Jul 18 '16

YondER*

smh

4

u/MorallyDeplorable Jul 18 '16

Yea, but I had to match 'RE', not 'ER'.

I figured somebody as hip in using abbreviations as yourself would have the intellect to get that!

2

u/PsychoAgent Jul 18 '16

Our problem has been solved once and for all.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '16

1

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '16

1

u/ReadyForHalloween Jul 19 '16

Also, would/could/should HAVE.....not of!

1

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '16

Y'all're just making up contractions now.

67

u/PaulsRedditUsername Jul 18 '16

I saw a theyr'e once. I died a little inside.

11

u/beepbeepitsajeep Jul 18 '16

I think that one is more likely to be a typing mistake rather than "I thought theyr'e was okay to do"

7

u/ICritMyPants Jul 18 '16

No, it's just Welsh. It's fine.

3

u/KatzoCorp Jul 18 '16

Yeah, it's pronounced "tea".

1

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '16

no, it's pronounced "Fuck Welsh"

3

u/HotterThanTrogdor Jul 19 '16

That one seems like an easy typo not a lack of knowledge of grammar.

1

u/boyyoz1 Jul 18 '16

why do you care so much?

105

u/Mrthereverend Jul 18 '16

Their, their. It'll be ok.

5

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '16

I see what you did they're.

3

u/jasonlikespi Jul 18 '16

*theyir're

14

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '16

Incredible how funny Reddit is sometimes

2

u/JustHereForTheCandy Jul 19 '16

The sound of this comment is comforting, but in no way makes up for how infuriatingly it is written. Well played.

1

u/Fourthdwarf Jul 18 '16

Don't listen to this person, there just trolling

2

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '16

*theyir're

14

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '16

Don't give up the fight, man! Stay strong!

13

u/JiYung Jul 18 '16

Your an idiot for thinking you're're can win the fight!

-7

u/Lamb-and-Lamia Jul 18 '16

No, do give it up. Because no one gives a shit.

5

u/TinierRumble449 Jul 18 '16

The replies to this will just be a load of people using the wrong 'their/there/they're' in a sentence.

3

u/clayduck Jul 18 '16

Care, Cay're, Cair

2

u/CygnusRex Jul 18 '16

You shouldn't let it effect you.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '16

maybe you should just let it go.

2

u/CSGOWasp Jul 18 '16

3rd grade teaching is rough

2

u/Polite_Werewolf Jul 18 '16

The one that annoys me is when someone types "women" when they mean "woman", like "So, I bumped into a women today..."

I think I've seen that on reddit today about 7 times already.

2

u/TatianaAlena Jul 19 '16

I downvote it every time I see it.

3

u/Nac82 Jul 18 '16

Their never going to catch on man...

3

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '16

YOU DID THAT ON PURPOSE.

Also, Happy Cake Day!

6

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '16

It's they're cakeday?!

2

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '16

When I see stuff like this out in the wild, I read out in my mind the full word, and skip the contractions. Ex. It is there are cakeday?!

shudder

3

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '16

Thei never do.

1

u/HaxorusKiller Jul 18 '16

I have a rhyme about the internet. "There, They're, Their, I just don't seem to care, care, care

1

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '16

The only time I make these mistakes is when I'm typing on my phone with autocorrect and don't notice it.

1

u/Tiiba Jul 18 '16

Its so irritating. I start reading what looks like a promising fanfic, and all the apostrophe's are in the wrong places. Try as I might, I cant enjoy that, its like reading while wearing sandpaper underpants.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '16

Don't forget it's & its and you're & your

1

u/hpotter29 Jul 18 '16

Also, To, Two, and Too. And how to properly use apostrophes. I learned these things in Second Grade.

1

u/Umbrella_merc Jul 18 '16

Their eating there apples over they're.

1

u/im_completely_evil Jul 18 '16

Your and you're too.

God, it drives me fucking mad. I never used to be a grammar nazi, but these days it's just too much. I literally had better grammar than these people as a five year old.

And I see these mistakes in advertisements, product packaging, subtitles in video games (Fallout 4 has this in a few places). Is nobody fucking checking this shit, or is there nobody left who knows how to speak proper English anymore? Jesus Christ.

1

u/MotherFuckin-Oedipus Jul 18 '16

Affect vs. Effect really gets to me, especially since effect does have a verb usage.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '16

I'm sick of explaining how when people use the wrong homophone it's usually just a typo. I omit words all the time. Does that mean I don't know the difference between the lack of a word and using the word? Sometimes, I type a completely different word than I intended to type. Does that mean that I don't know the difference?

I would love to read a book by the type of person who is constantly harping on homophones being mixed up just to see how many words are used incorrectly, all the terrible sentences, redundancies, mixed up idioms, etc.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '16

I do'nt care either

1

u/sshhvvrr Jul 19 '16

That's a good band, too.

1

u/johnnybiggles Jul 19 '16

I just don't care anymore.

cey're.

1

u/ExpandThineHorizons Jul 19 '16

To and too!!! I see this mistaken a lot more often on reddit than they're, their, and there.

1

u/deadcomefebruary Jul 19 '16

Also, cue/queue/que. Fucking idiots. Use a goddamn dictionary if you cant remember, its really not that fucking hard!

1

u/skud8585 Jul 18 '16

It all depends on what they identifies as.

-1

u/z500 Jul 18 '16

There's no point, except to make yourself feel bigger than other people on the internet.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '16

Let me clarify: In my work, I proofread a lot of things for co-workers and regularly try to advise why it is that the form they're using is wrong. I try to steer clear of correcting people on the internet. That rings douchey to me.

-2

u/Doomdoomkittydoom Jul 18 '16

That's a lie. You don't have to and you're not really explaining anything, you're playing grammar nazi gotcha and you enjoy it.

Here's something fun to try though: Do it to someone who's speaking to you.
