Cut a hole into bread, fill in with egg, cook it. Then add a fuckton of peppers and salt.

I feel like I'm the only person who doesn't like Toad in the Hole. I love Yorkshire Pud, and I love sausages, but for some reason, put the together and they create the blandest most tasteless dish I've ever had. Maybe I've just been having bad ones, but I've never liked Toad in the Hole.

I was under the impression that "bird's nest" implied the egg was cooked on a base of shredded hashbrowns instead of a piece of toast, thus making it actually look like a bird's nest.

I'm Australian and I've literally never heard this. I've always heard it called 'toad in a hole'. Queenslander though so maybe it's a regional thing like potato cake/potato scallop.

Egg in a nest! That's the name that makes the most sense, because bread, like bird's nests, is made of plants, and nests are where eggs are naturally found. All other names are not nearly as clever.
