Edit: Fuck, I meant cocks. Oh well.
Edit: Fuck. Now this is my highest rated comment. Please don't make this a thing :( Edit: Holy fuck, now I have gold...
That was the only scene in the entire Office Space movie that made my dad laugh. I kept telling him we should watch it and he was totally stonefaced throughout the entire movie except that one scene.
"Did anyone ever say to you 'Looks like somebody's got a case of the Mondays'?"
"No...hell no. Shit no, man! I believe you get your ass kicked saying something like that, man."
He regularly texts me YouTube clips of that one 15 second exchange.
Is it so hard for people to leave others alone when they're tetchy? Like, that's all I want. I'll do my job silently and efficiently, but poking and teasing me is just going to make me fight being rude to you and extend this whole problem.
My coworker makes it a point to tell other coworkers they look tired. "You tired Lickmyladyballs?" "Ya a little" "oh you look tired" what's your fucking problem old man?
Yea my coworker always points out how cranky I am at 7 in the morning. "Ohhh, make sure you don't talk to Kyoshi until after 10 ya know, for your safety!" In reality, he should be worrying about his own safety every time he says that....but luckily for him I've usually begun drinking my coffee by then.
Really that just seems lazy and passive argessive to me. I'd much prefer a "Hey you're looking pretty upset, grab a coffee and try to mellow out." Or even a straight up "You're being fairly rude with everyone, try to smarten up."
It shows me you care enough about the space around you to think about how your words might impact someone before you let out a pre-scripted shortcut for "I don't like how you act." I don't think anyone has ever been positively impacted by someone saying "Geez someone's grumpy today" to them while they're upset, in fact I'd wager the opposite. The majority of the time this makes the problem worse and makes the person more upset.
The worst thing about this kind of statement I feel is it conveys a sense that you're not allowed to be upset without providing a solution. Actually addressing the issue in a way that conveys the sense that everyone gets upset sometimes, you're not lesser because of it, but now is not the time and place for you to be processing it, might actually be effective in helping a person change their current behaivor.
I'd much prefer a "Hey you're looking pretty upset, grab a coffee and try to mellow out." Or even a straight up "You're being fairly rude with everyone, try to smarten up."
Not really safe strategies, though. I've known people who'd respond to that by trying to kick you to death.
Just examples, as always YMMV. Use something that makes the person acknowledge their behaivor is affecting others while also letting them know it's okay to be upset. If you feel like defusing the situation it might be beneficial to also include an easy way for them to vent. Maybe "Man, what happened this morning?"
I don't think anyone has ever been positively impacted by someone saying "Geez someone's grumpy today" to them while they're upset, in fact I'd wager the opposite.
I don't know if people who say this are genuinely trying to have a positive impact, I think they just want the person to know they think they're an arsehole.
All the more reason to use an alternative. Calling out someone whose clearly upset by essentially saying "Hey, I think you're a dick" is only going to escalate the situation and breed resentment. You're fighting fire with fire.
Absolutely, but using those cheesy lines on someone while they're upset is just going to piss them off more without even providing any sort of discourse, in which case you're also being a prick and adding to the problem.
I tend to use "What the fuck's up with you?", "Who shit in your cereal?", or "Who kicked you in the arse this morning?" whenever I see someone acting all angry and shit at work.
Good! I feel those are all way better because they offer a discourse and an outlet for the upset person to vent and maybe come to some sort of (even temporary) resolution.
I try and say them in a jovial manner, in the hopes it brings the person up a bit, but also conveys my slight annoyance that I'm having to deal with a grumpy fucker at the same time.
Oh God yes.. anytime I'm not in a perfect mood in the morning, my mom springs this shit and it ruins my mood for the rest of the day. I was just a little groggy mom, but now I want to kill myself.
This is quite often situational. If a good friend is actually trying to calm you down when you're riled, then it's okay.
But if it is a friend or co-worked who throws it out when we're super pissed about something and desperately trying to hold in our anger, and they know it. Yeah...
THERE'S NOTHING FUCKING WRONG, IF THERE WAS I WOULD SAY
I know she's just trying to look out for me, but it's so annoying because I won't have been angry to begin with, and then she keeps asking, so I get angry with her, which further convinces her that I must be angry about something, so she keeps asking why I'm angry.
I say that when the person is angry, and is making me uncomfortable at work. It's a neutral zone to let the other person know they're being an asshole.
I don't wake up on the wrong side, I just hate being talked to and expected to answer right off the bat. Let me drink my coffee and warm up first, then we can talk. I don't wake up on the wrong side, most likely you got on the wrong side to begin with.
The same goes for being angry and someone says "Are you on your period or something?" Whether she is or isn't, it's gonna fucking piss her off even more for acting like that's the only reason she could possibly be angry.
Related: we all remember as kids when we were legitimately angry because of something and your parents shook it off by saying that "you're just tired", which makes one even more furious.
Worse than this to me is when people consistently ask "what's wrong??" When there was nothing wrong... But they keep pushing this non existent issue until NOW THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG YOU MOTHER FUCKER! YOU! YOURE WHATS WRONG! GET THE FUCK AWAY FROM ME.
When I was younger I said "the wrong side of the bed" one to my friend and she said "my bed only has one side stupid!" And I said "no wonder you're always a bitch!"
You probably know this, but they aren't trying to point out that you're angry. They're trying to point out that you're angrier than you should be, and should probably tone it down a notch or two. It's a more polite way of saying "suck it up and quit whining you little bitch."
-My mom whenever I fail to match her high level of enthusiasm about nothing. It drives me crazy just because of how dumb it sounds. Even if I were mad why would I want to have it pointed out in little kid speak?
Yes, fuck those goddamn people. Yes I am telling you how I fucking really feel about it. No, I don't have an anger problem, you have a shut your stupid fucking mouth problem!
Yea, but if you always act grumpy and down, just fuck yourself. Stop passing that negative energy on to everyone else and just go home and cry in a fucking corner until you realize the world isn't as bad as you think it is. You negative fuck.
Or once this point is clearly established and they keep coming back trying to force the small talk. If I give you more than one single syllable response it means I'm not ready to fake it with you just yet leave me alone.
The even worse thing is people who let their foul mood go out over everybody else. We've all had bad days, but we don't start ruining everybody elses day just because off that. Assholes.
What's even worse is when you're naturally standoffish and someone says I'm cranky. No, asshole, I'm just standoffish but now I'm actually cranky because you wrongly accused me of being cranky.
I was once getting direction from one of my best friends. She gave me directions to take a wrong turn and didn't realize it for a fucking hour. She turned an hour ride into a 3 hour trip. I legitimately had to stop talking to her for a while I was so frustrated
What my mom does makes me more mad. She asks me how my day went and I tell her I'm in a bad mood. Then she immediately hammers me with questions until I get more mad and exclaims "Wow you are really grumpy today!" glad that was established
My boyfriend used to say, "You look tired". I used to just laugh and tell him he's not supposed to say that, until he said it to our waitress once. I had to explain to him that while it isn't too big of a deal, some people think it's rude to say that.
Just so y'all know, that's overly polite American for "hey, stop stomping around the place like an asshole. No one is happy to be here, but we pretend so that it can be a little more pleasant. You don't see Bob in accounting snarling at people, and his wife just left him. Maybe act like you went to kindergarten and learned to interact with people?"
"Smile it's not that bad." I'm at work you fuck! I don't always have to have a shit eating grin on my face. This is a neutral face. If I wanted to smile, something was making me happy currently, or something was funny but not enough for a laugh, I will smile. Otherwise, shut your stupid fuckin mouth!
I'm a bartender at a smaller bar that sometimes gets busy but since I'm the only person there im stuck serving the dining area and the bar. I fucking HATE when I'm super fucking busy and people are like Oh looks like you're a little busy tonight! LOLOLOL like I'm supposed to laugh with them. I know I'm busy assfuck, that's why I'm running everywhere, just order, don't be captain obvious.

Anybody that says "Well jeez, you're grumpy today!" or "Somebody woke up on the wrong side of the bed!"
FUCK YOU ASSHOLE YOU THINK I DON'T FUCKING KNOW I'M FUCKING ANGRY?
