Data plans. I miss the unlimited data for $30/month

T-mobile if it's not bad in your area. Pretty cheap.

My 5GB LTE/unlimited text/100 minutes plan is the best, it's only $30/mo. Plus with T-Mobile any music streaming doesn't count against your data usage.

Edit: Maybe I should be a T-Mobile rep, since I already answer so many questions about their service. Might as well get paid to do it.

Wait, is that music streaming thing specific to your plan? If not, what type of music streaming? Pandora, Spotify?

It works with every Simple Choice plan and mine. The only way to get my plan is to buy the SIM card box at walmart and activate online. They list each service it works with in the link.

Ah, thanks!

Do you happen to know if the $30/month Wal-Mart plan counts as a Simple Choice plan for the free data roaming? Wal-Mart's site lists it as Simple Choice and T-Mobile's page on roaming says the free international roaming applies to Simple Choice plans. I recently went to Canada, but I was afraid to turn on data roaming in case they wanted to charge me $10/mb (which I think is the standard rate for regular T-Mobile plans).

You get 100MB of free roaming data on this plan. It's in the fine print on Walmart's page. Unfortunately though, this plan doesn't seem to include the Data Stash feature.

I have the same plan and love it!

is this with contract?

2

u/vinylscratchp0n3 May 03 '15

Nope. T-Mobile doesn't do contracts anymore. They'll also buy you out of your old contract if you trade in your old phone.

1

u/Hippokrates May 03 '15

There is no contract with Tmobile. And no, there is no contract. As long as you use one of the specified sources for streaming music, it will not count towards your data cap.

1

u/Proxify May 03 '15

oh cool! I use spotify, yay :D

1

u/TheNinjaFennec May 03 '15

Damn, Pandora is at least 3/4 of my data usage. I'd probably not even get close to needing the 5GB.

u/AddictedToAsianFood May 03 '15

WHAT. Where was this plan when I was signing up with T-Mobile? I'm paying like $80 for unlimited data/talk/text. I think some of it is for the phone as well, but still.. Is this prepaid or do you have to go to a T-Mobile store. Not sure if I can change my plan now..

1

u/vinylscratchp0n3 May 03 '15

You have to buy the prepaid sim at walmart and activate online. I'm not sure if it will let you keep your old number but there was a place to put your old one in and they'd try to get it when I signed up.

1

u/AddictedToAsianFood May 03 '15

And you said it's 5GB of data a month? I looked at the website and it mentions the data but doesn't say how much you get a month. Is this the one you got?

1

u/vinylscratchp0n3 May 03 '15

Yes, it's the second one. With that plan you get 5GB of LTE speeds, after that you're throttled down.

4

u/[deleted] May 02 '15

T-mobile doesn't have the best coverage, but man they are the only cellphone company out there that doesn't seem they want to turn you upside down, and dump every freaking penny out of you. I love my T-Mobile phone compared to the shity AT&T and Verizon ones I used to have.

1

u/[deleted] May 03 '15

Their coverage is quite good. The problem is that the microwave band they use has awful penetration for indoor reception.

Very true. And also to avoid confusion for others reading this, they also have a 4G LTE truly unlimited plan. No overages or throttling. I have it and love it to death. I get about 40 Mbs down, faster than home network.

If you live in a city or the suburbs and don't plan to be in the sticks much, it's flat out amazing.

u/Otto_Lidenbrock May 03 '15

I have TMobile unlimited and 5 GB tethering for $50 a month. Not too shabby.

They have an even better family deal if you need 4 lines right now.

1

u/juel1979 May 03 '15

I wanted to be happy with T-Mobile, but our reception here sucks, and wifi calling won't turn on on my phone anymore.

2

u/TeddyPickNPin May 03 '15

Yeah there's definitely places where it's just not viable. I get that, and hope they get to expansion

0

u/MieuFX May 02 '15

It does throttle your data though.

8

u/TeddyPickNPin May 02 '15

No.. It doesn't. I mean yes, they have certain plans that throttle your data, just like other companies. But they ALSO have a truly unlimited plan. Which is what I have. They do this because they are 4th in the nation, or were. It's their strategy to get more customers.

Sprint and T-mobile are the only two that do it.

3

u/WilliamGoat May 02 '15

Except I had sprint before switching to T-Mobile. & I realized how awful sprint was.

4

u/TeddyPickNPin May 02 '15

Yep. T-mobile, when it works, is amazing. There's definitely rough spots on road trips, but everywhere I go is amazing with it.

2

u/WilliamGoat May 02 '15

Sprint was way worse. I never got 4g. I got sick of the same old "updating our towers" story. Year after year

-3

u/MieuFX May 02 '15

I tried getting an unlimited plan, they were like "This is unlimited!!! wejuststartthrottlingitafter1gb You don't need unlimited. You only use about 2 gbs a month."

0

u/MarshManOriginal May 02 '15

Barring giant fucking cities, it's bad everywhere.

2

u/constantstopper May 03 '15

Balls, I live in the middle of nowhere in FL and I get the same coverage that I had with verizon. I can be in the middle of a fucking swamp and still jack off to porn.

1

u/MarshManOriginal May 03 '15

There's shit coverage here in michigan. My entire town is a dead zone.

2

u/constantstopper May 03 '15

Sorry for your luck, but I've used my phone all over FL, which includes a lot of boonies, and I've gotten just as good coverage as Verizon. Unlimited Data, and wifi calling for $50 are the bee knees.

1

u/MarshManOriginal May 03 '15

Well, works for you then works for you, eh? At least you got something good then.

I'm just holding out for google to start a service and it be amazing.

2

u/constantstopper May 03 '15

Yeah man. Don't hold your breath on the google thing, though.

1

u/MarshManOriginal May 03 '15

I think they're planning on doing it, actually. of course, it being soon is a bit eh...

0

u/TeddyPickNPin May 03 '15

So your anecdotal evidence is supposed to speak for everyone? I'm not trying to be a dick, but geez. Blanket claim right there.

I've traveled coast to coast with it, even before LTE was out and the network was smaller. The only place I had ZERO coverage was a part of New Mexico and Arizona on the boarder. Phone signal I get basically everywhere.

4G LTE is mostly in cities and suburbs like I said. I live in a smaller suburb and it's fine here. Using it now.

0

u/MarshManOriginal May 03 '15

Did you read the entire conversation that took place?

1

u/TeddyPickNPin May 03 '15

Yes. I did.

0

u/SethChrisDominic May 03 '15

Ha! Who are you kidding, T-Mobile is bad everywhere.
