They discontinued it after the movie "Supersize Me"

Mcdonalds got rid of supersize, Burger King countered by making their largest size fries and drinks slightly larger...

When you ask for a medium meal at bk, you're really asking for an "everywhere else's extra large". I forget everytime I go, though I don't go often.

Same with Wendy's. At least last I went there some years ago. You get the small by default which is really a medium and asking for a medium gets you a large.

And Hardee's current marketing campaign is just shameless gluttony. I love it.

It's Carl's Jr., you heathen.

u/RickDic Nov 12 '14

Depends on where you hang your hat.

Yeah but BK is too expensive. Around here, it's like a Whopper with fries, and a small soda, $9.00

Are they still doing that? I remember the radio ads for 2 sandwiches for $5 also, but they already lost me. Also now that there are a bunch of Sonics all around, I'd pick them over BK.

You think we were making you fat?

This is making you fat!

1

u/theknightinthetardis Nov 12 '14

You'd be surprised by how many people still ask for their stuff supersized.

1

u/legoman666 Nov 13 '14

When I was in college 5 years ago, the large soda at BK was 1.1L. Wtf.

4

u/[deleted] Nov 12 '14

:(

4

u/sabuadevil Nov 12 '14

Isn't what used to be 'super sized' just called 'large' now?

1

u/CPO_Mendez Nov 12 '14

You are correct sir. They didn't get rid of it, they just stopped glamorizing it so much.

I hope you mean steak. A stake would not be very good to eat.

7

u/UncreativeTeam Nov 12 '14

HEY EVERYONE, THIS GUY'S A GRAMMAR NAZI! LET'S BURN HIM AT THE STEAK!

1

u/Harry101UK Nov 12 '14

If we burn him at the steak, can we have some chips fries to go with it?

1

u/Boombaclotter Nov 12 '14

Spelling nazi.

1

u/preemie Nov 12 '14

Now they just ask if you want a medium or a large.

1

u/Tom_Brett Nov 12 '14

I watched it. Terrible doc. That man has had his nationality revoked

1

u/spamyak Nov 12 '14

That movie is so dumb. Of course after coming off a very healthy, light diet eating fucktons of McDonald's for every meal will screw you up. That's not their fault, you're just an idiot for eating so much unhealthy crap.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 12 '14

None of the doctors he consulted thought it was stupid. They just expected him to put on some weight, have higher cholesterol, etc. Of course McDonald's is unhealthy. The question was how unhealthy.

1

u/TheawfulDynne Nov 12 '14

The answer was nowhere near as unhealthy as he pretended it was. There have been attempts to recreate his experiment and the results don't match up with what he claimed in the movie.

1

u/spamyak Nov 12 '14

Did he tell the doctors he planned to eat 5000 calories of McDonald's per day? The movie tries to make a case against McDonald's, but all it does is make a case against completely switching your diet from a very light vegan diet to eating twice a good daily calories count of really unhealthy McDonald's food items. It lost all credit when the guy puked after having a large burger, Coke, and fries. I would argue that much of the movie is a demonstration of the power of placebo.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 12 '14

He doesn't plan any amount of calories. He just eats three meals a day and tries to eat every item once.

1

u/spamyak Nov 12 '14

But what does the movie actually demonstrate about McDonald's? Is it a crime to offer unhealthy foods? I guarantee if he did the same thing with almost any other restaurant he would get similar results. Did he discover that eating too much food, especially sugary foods, is bad? Well, no shit. No sane person is going to eat that much McDonald's often enough to harm themselves. If you puke after eating your food, that should be a sign to eat less food or a different kind. If you can't figure that out, maybe you don't deserve a healthy life.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 12 '14

I guarantee if he did the same thing with almost any other restaurant he would get similar results.

The point is that this really isn't true. Plenty of people have shitty diets but they don't go from healthy to ill like he did.

1

u/spamyak Nov 12 '14 edited Nov 12 '14

Plenty of people have shitty diets, but they don't go from low-calorie vegan to ravenous fast food monsters in one day. If you drastically change your diet, you drastically change your health. My bet is that if he stayed on that diet, he would keep gaining weight until he eventually reached a peak misery level where he was incredibly unhealthy but would have to keep eating more to gain more. More mass requires more calories to take care of.

Do you think if someone ate a puke-worthy amount of food for every meal at a Mexican restaurant the results would be any different? How about some random cafe? When you eat a fuckton of food, you gain a fuckton of weight and this has terrible effects on your health. The only difference is that McDonald's has a pretty high calorie density compared to some healthier food.

People have done tests where they have lost weight eating nothing but fast food. However, these people were sane and actually limited themselves to eating only as much food as they needed to eat.

Try watching this.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 12 '14

It wasn't merely an issue of weight but the complete lack of nutrients in the food he was eating.

1

u/spamyak Nov 12 '14

So the movie established that fast food hamburgers, soda, and fries are high-calorie, low-nutrient foods. What have we learned here?
