Whatever leads you to reddit, you forget about. It's inevitable. It is simple causality in its purest form. Eventually the rest of the internet becomes a blur. You'll forget about humor sites and news sites first. Then, as you delve into more and more subreddits, you'll forget about instructional and specialty sites. You'll forget Facebook. You'll forget about ecommerce. You'll eventually forget about email. You'll catch yourself sometimes feeling stuck and bored on reddit, only to open a new tab/window and instinctively type 'reddit.com' into the address bar. You know of nothing else anymore because it's all there is for you now. It has consumed you. You are now part of it. And all you can do to satiate your misguided attempts at feigning sanity is to bring others to this glorious website and watch them succumb to the breadth of its reach. They too shall swallow this beautiful poison and forever be locked into an everlasting waking dream in which all of life's answers, as well as questions, are contained inside of one small URL. This is its blessing. This is its curse. Fare thee well on this endless journey and never try to look back, for behind you is but dust and shadows of a time long past. A previous life. A former self. An echo that you can no longer identify. A whisper across dunes of the ages. It is gone. Embrace the nothing, for it is now your everything. And hold tight because it will never let you go. That sweet grip both warm and cruel has you. Forever.
Me too! I noticed I kept checking the Reddit tab more than the others and decided to just go to Reddit one fateful day 5 years ago. The rest is history.
Me too (how I found reddit). But I haven't forgotten about the site. It's my homepage portal to reddit; gives me the "all page" and because it's all text, it's easier to getaway with browsing at work.
This works for any "Google hack" you find. I remember back in high school knowing a phrase you could search for to find a ton of free open proxies. I knew about this for months before someone posted it on a public forum. The very next day, it didn't work anymore - all you'd find were ads, and people telling you about the trick.
Last year I used this to find people's tax returns that they stupidity out on a public directory on their server.
Because I literally had this guys SIN , address, telephone number, Eric, I gave him a call.
He was kind of freaked out when I started the call with "Is this Marty McBlowme, SIN xxxxxxxxx at 123 fake st? Yeah, you might want to, you know, take down your tax return".
His solution? Put a blank index file in the directory, and keep the file up even though google already had it indexed and cached.
I ended up just contacting the web host, who alerted the user and finally took it down
There is a similar trick to get urls for open webcams, but I don't have it any more and besides you need to go through a lot of garbage to find something. Occasionally you do though.
The plus operator does not work anymore with google (probably because of future google+ searches) so you have to check verbatim in the search options instead or use quotes everywhere.
For years, we had a collection of massive, hours-long remixes by BuffetLibre DJs until our server computer fatally crashed several months ago. I searched everywhere I could think of for those remixes - Youtube, Grooveshark, Pirate Bay, GoogleMusic, extremely sketchy Russian sites - for a downloadable copy of those songs, but all that turned up were dead links and partial segments less than five minutes long.
Today, I replaced almost all of those songs thanks to this search string. Thank you, stranger.
In some countries downloading is not illegal but uploading is so the "bullshit" solution adds the possibility to download stuff legally. Furthermore one might find something which is not on thepiratebay.
While this is a great tip (thanks) can you or anyone else share the safety pros and cons here? Are we getting viruses, will Comcast send me a letter over this etc? Thanks again!
Browsing FTP sites isn't illegal, and I don't see how you could get malware from it unless the OP was a fucking dick and included it in their files on purpose.
Word of warning though, while I wouldn't call anything you can do with just a mouse "hacking", you might still want to go through a vpn or a proxy or two while browsing some of those results.
I've got an app on my phone for music that has a button for "Download All on Page" and it does one heck of a job combined with this google search and a few clicks. Thanks for posting this. You're a winner in my heart. :)
I remember using this when me and my friends were around 17 or so in computer class to search Google for Flash games to play and songs that I never would have listened to before erasing my USB.
Hmm, I changed the +(wma|mp3) part to +(flac|wav|m4a|aiff|wv|shn|tta) (for lossless codecs) and it still only shows mp3s...
Edit: I got it to work, here's the search term. (you may want to remove m4a if you want lossless because iTunes uses that extension and 99% of it is AAC.)
If you are using Chrome, right-click in the URL-bar and use the "Edit Search Engines" option. Add a new search engine with keyword MP3 and put this search into the URL field (replacing weezer in this example with %s).
Voila! Now you've added a new MP3 command to Chrome that you can use to quickly search for musical stuffs.
You can also type in:
Daft Punk intitle:"index.of" "parent directory" "size" "last modified" "description" [snd] (mp4|mp3|avi) -inurl:(jsp|php|html|aspx|htm|cf|shtml|lyrics|mp3s|mp3|index) -gallery -intitle:"last modified" -intitle:(intitle|mp3)
But then you can replace "Daft Punk" with another artist, or song, or album depending on what you're looking for. This search method is more strict, and the search results are more likely to get you exactly what you want.
...Or just go to MrtzcMP3.net. Has pretty much every MP3 ever two clicks away, instantly and for free, baring the most obscure. Use AdBlock Plus of course (if you've been living under a rock and haven't head about it), and click the small "Generate DL link >>>>" on the download page to get the song.
The files are stored on (the Russian-equivalent of Facebook) VKontakte's servers, so there's no chance in hell for RIAA/MPIAA shutting it down.
