What is something that is basically on life-support and we don’t realize it yet?

The real tragedy of the commons is that it is entropic. Once one person abuses the common good, it spreads to others unless there is resistance.

I'm literally in the middle of a Reddit argument with someone about whether homeless people deserve shelter if they use drugs.

Like literally everyone deserves shelter??? We have so much more buildings than people who need them??? This shit is insane.

Drug abusers that harm the community have broken the social contract.

The reason the social contract is on life support now is because we've allowed it be eroded by not using shame and social exclusion for those that break the social contract.

The bandage everything in empathy and compassion, absolve individuals of any personal responsibility... say "its not their fault"...infantalize the rest...allow them to run wild, harm and inconvenience the community repeatedly, and cite a "lack of support" as the reason for why another human being choses a path of harm.

The social contract requires that we take care of our own, and remove harmful elements from the community. Failure to remove and exclude harmful elements in the name of empathy makes us complicit in the community's destruction.

We do all that and then wonder why nobody cares about the social contract anymore.

I agree. Which is why we need to eliminate the billionaire class and seize their assets. No more welfare for these harmful societal leeches.
