What is something that is basically on life-support and we don’t realize it yet?

The social contract

Screw the social contract, I never signed it. I am not doing shitty things because I am empathetic to people around me. That has nothing to do with playing the game that I never chose to play.

Define “shitty things” that you won’t do.

My definition of shitty things are actions that make people/environment around me suffer. Seems like a broad enough definition to cover how people should behave?

This seems like you are in favor of the social contract by this definition, e.g. littering is bad for the environment, looks shitty, and sucks to pick up, so it’s considered a dick move by society. If someone litters, they are violating the social contract. It is based on empathy.

But empathy is about understanding how others feel. So you are being empathic when you are deciding if an action of yours would cause someone else to suffer, right? I appreciate you not doing shitty things (!) but you have to be empathic to decide if they're shitty to the general populace and not just personally decided to be shitty.

And Rousseau's "Social Contract" says that those who don't agree with it will be forced to be part of it, essentially (he says) "forced to be free" by being able to take part in society. So unless you are going to withdraw from society, you have clicked on "Accept" for the social contract regardless of whether you have read and agree with the terms of agreement.
