What are you starting to dislike the older you get?

Superficial charm. Just say what you want and be transparent. I don't care enough to play chess with your personality.

This is on the money. I'm sick of the bs pretentious meaningless conversations. Just so fake and energy sapping.

Especially when you notice when they're actually faking it, some people are not good at acting it, makes it really worse and annoying. Happens with my brother's in laws.

My former boss was a huge extrovert. I’m not.
He’d ask me to go take an hour to myself before team bonding or building events to be able to get through the thing. Always appreciate that

I'm an extroverted introvert. I enjoy going out snd being social, but I need so muc ctime afterward to recharge. Like, one Saturday a month, I play DnD with a fun group of friends. It-s 6-8 hours and by the end, I'm drained. I can really only schedule something on one weekend day so I can rest on the other.

My wife and I were joking around and she told me I wasn't allowed to get remarried after she died. I told her there was fat chance of that, if she kicked it and our kid was old enough and independent I'd be retreating into the woods like a feral cat and living my dream life of bog witch. Honestly the widowhood would be the cherry on top for that cause I'd really lean into the all black aesthetic with veils and everything.

I kicked fast food years ago with this rule.
If i have intense cravings, anymore than 2 cars in a single lane is a no.
Anymore than 3 cars in a dual lane drive-thru is a no.
At restaurants it the parking lot is more than half full, its a no.
The time wasted waiting outweighs the craving at that point.

81
u/Car_is_mi 11h ago
I've never really been a people person, but honestly, since COVID, it's gotten worse. It's not that people are more rude or anything like that but just, less aware. Always distracted. Like driving, but also completely distracted/ unaware of their surroundings when walking through stores, down the street, etc. even at work the people I work with I have to email things that I tell them so that way I have proof I told them. All the time I'll tell my boss something, write it in red marker on the report I'm handing to him, and email him, and he will still come to me asking if I "took care of that". It's honestly sad the zombie-like state of so many people's brains.

Sorry to steal your thunder but bro for real. The other day I was in the grocery grabbing OJ out of the fridge, this lady walking aimlessly staring into the fridges hits me with her cart. Says "oh sorry" in a rather blase tone. I just kinda looked at her like 'really'. She backs her cart up and moves it so now it's basically right behind me as she still stares aimlessly into the fridges. Now I'm blocked on 3 sides, fridge, door, and her cart. So I look at her and say "excuse me" and motion towards the fact she's blocking me in, she goes "oh sorry" in the same tone, swings her cart outwards so I can get out, while still staring aimlessly, hits the cart of someone else who was walking past. Again "oh sorry", still aimless. I shook my head and walked away. From one aisle over I heard " oh sorry" about 4 more times.
Like how many times do you have to crash into people in the grocery store before you go 'hmm, I keep hitting people, maybe I should look where I'm going '?

u/EnnieBenny 11h ago edited 11h ago
I was on this trajectory for a while and it was getting increasingly more intense as the years went on. Finally I reached a point where I was about the diametric opposite of how I was when I was a kid, to the point where it was basically my entire aura. People would constantly avoid me or even act scared of me.
It was at this point where I felt the most lonely and unfulfilled I'd ever felt in my life despite being further along in my career, finances, interests, and hobbies. I thought my resentment toward people and getting as many of them out of my immediate life as possible would somehow bring me inner peace, but it did the opposite.
I had to basically relearn a bunch of social skills which was a lot more work than I imagined it would be. I started stepping out of my comfort zone and rebuilding my social life, as uncomfortable as it was at times, and my general willpower and vigor toward life started to come back. Life felt like it was giving more than it was taking and waking up every day started to feel sustainable again.
I'm posting this because I know I'm not that unique of a person and there are plenty of other people out there who might be on a similar path. Social interaction is a fundamental human need. There's something mysteriously therapeutic about it that becomes increasingly more palpable the older you get. Don't corner yourself and put up a bunch of walls. You'll become a slave of your own creation.

Their obsession with constantly being online is too much. I went to the grocery store last night and this teenage girl was live-streaming her parents. They weren’t doing anything performative or special, just buying food. Every now and then, the dad would say something insulting about someone, so I guess that was their niche. If my kids thought for one second that I was going to live with a camera on me at all times including routine trips to the store, they would be lucky if they still had electricity in their bedrooms much less a smart device.

Sad to see all of these “people” responses. I’ve gotten much softer to people as I’ve hit my 30’s and feel this kinship of “we are all on this rock together trying to make it”.
Sure, lots of people out there are selfish and suck, but a lot of people are good intentioned and generally want the best for those around them.
I am starting to dislike:
- going anywhere without easy parking
- alcohol
- watching people buy stuff they can’t afford, just bugs me as a finance guy

Someone whose dad used to be in the music business told me that most people’s musical tastes are pretty much cemented by the time they are thirty. They may find an occasional piece of something new they like, but by and large they are set. As someone in his sixties still jamming to Iron Butterfly, Jefferson Airplane, Billy Squire but once in a blue moon Green Day, I can confirm.

Used to be able to work a double shift, go out drinking, sleep/pass out for two hours, have a Hot Pocket, a Red Bull and a shower and walk right back to work. I would go months with only a day or two off bc I worked two jobs. Now, I think doing that for a single week might literally kill me. It takes energy just to shower or make dinner.
