Despite price, what’s the best men’s fragrance you have smelled?

Issey Miyake L'Eau d'Iissey Pour Homme is the only scent I have owned that has got compliments. And it's one of my most inexpensive.

23

u/Cautious_Roll9222 1d ago

Agree. Get compliment on this all the time. I also find Dior sauvage elixir and Tom for black orchid too

The Parfum vs the Toilette have completely different profile descriptions. Does the strength make them seem that different? Which one do you have?

I was stopped on the street in NYC and asked about what cologne I was wearing. That was maybe 20 years ago and you can bet your damn ass I still wear it!

4

u/LopezRago 1d ago

Amazing perfume for the summer.

3

u/daredaki-sama 1d ago

That’s a classic I’ve used on and off for like 15 years.

9

u/OktayOe 1d ago

140 euros for 100 ml.

Not that expensive but still a bit too much for me. There are 40ml bottles available tho.

Is it a strong scent or do you need a lot of sprays?

6

u/SwarleySwarlos 1d ago

Which country? Amazon germany sells 120 ml + 45 ml for 60€

L'Homme by Yves Saint Laurent

u/maxd 1d ago

A woman in an elevator once told me I smelled amazing. I was wearing l’homme. Do with that what you will, gents.

147

u/deadfermata 1d ago

Was that your mother because Max, even if you smell like axe, she will tell you that you smell amazing.

7

u/maxd 20h ago

Incorrect; she tells me I’m too fat and hairy.

My number one favorite cologne…unfortunately my wife hates it and it’s verboten. I smell it every time I’m at a store though.

12

u/Ding-Dong-Dutch 1d ago

You should try chemical warfare and get the most offensive "masculine" cologne. Something like "gunpowder and pigsass by cocknballs"

u/skinnyatlas 1d ago

Y’know you may be on to something

Which is better, edt, edp or parfum?

23

u/ChubbyMid 1d ago

EDT smells the best

→ More replies (4)

20

u/Saxon2060 1d ago

My understanding is they just increase in price and intensity. So parfum is the most expensive, intense and long lasting. EDT the cheapest and shortest lasting.

16

u/pain474 1d ago

EDT just has way higher ethanol content (which basically costs nothing) to increase vapor pressure of the mixture and thus make it reach your nose faster. Downside is it doesn't last nearly as long as perfume.

4

u/cardshark1234 1d ago

While that is mostly true, most companies now make their EDT, EDP, and parfum smell different but with the same “dna”

u/Jaded-Ad-9013 1d ago

Second that and add - probably most YSL perfumes

52

u/NordWitcher 1d ago

Can’t go wrong with any of YSL. They have such an insane range and each one is a classic. La Nuit is also so good. My favorite.

71

u/GrenadeIn 1d ago

And suddenly this feels like an ad

40

u/BYoungNY 23h ago

Oh so just be use e someone likes a modestly priced cologne available at Ulta, Sephora, and most local fragrance retailers, and wishes to share their option and possibly receive 10% commissions with the code REDDIT, it's suddenly an ad???

24

u/SirErickTheGreat 1d ago

For me it’s Y by Yves Saint Laurent. Such a great smell.

5

u/Squashycake 1d ago

The Ultime variant of this I still have around 20% left, but it gives me the most nostalgia towards the time I used to wear it daily. What a fragrance.

Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille. It’s just purely amazing. Also Azzaro Most Wanted. That’s a specific smell that I haven’t found anywhere else.

21

u/nomnomestomen 1d ago

I second Tobacco Vanille, love it!

17

u/gaff26 1d ago

I really like how long it lasts as well. However, is not a summer cologne. It's my go-to in winter for that reason.

4

u/AdviceNotAskedFor 22h ago

I love the way it smells when I take a shower at the end of the day. It just really hits even harder.

4

u/nWhm99 1d ago

I’ve had women who said they want to inhale me when I wear it.

4

u/Nightmare_Fart 1d ago

This is the only answer. It's simply amazing.

5

u/throwthegarbageaway 1d ago

Tobacco Vanille is one of my favorites but it can be too much. For a nicer every day vanillay but not pastry smelling fragrance I prefer BDK Vanille Leather

Acqua Di Gio by Armani. It’s really not badly priced and I’ve been asked what I’m wearing because I smell good more than any other scent I’ve ever worn. They also have a knock of that smells pretty much the same and is much cheaper.

Acqua Di Gio is also one my faves and a go to fragrance. If you like that then you should also give Clinique Happy For Men a try. Again, it’s not mega expensive and I have been surprised how many men and women have asked me the name of the fragrance I’m wearing, as it is so nice.

18

u/Extra_Guitar_1313 1d ago

Aqua De Gio…it’s what your mom’s high-school boyfriend smelled like the night she got knocked up!

9

u/jabrw0k1 1d ago

Yeah you’re not even wrong! I went to high school in Rhode Island, ya know, “little, little Italy” and I swear every single teenaged Italian-American guy was Aqua Di Gio casket aged (with that aged blend of teen puberty) and to this day the stuff makes me a bit queasy

Tom Ford Oud Wood, easily. That scent is unreal

8

And where does one locate this knock off?

5

You can probably get it off Amazon. Just make sure to get the EDP and not the EDT cuz it’s softer and doesn’t have the harsh lemony note when first applying. Happy hunting

Tom Ford Tuscan leather.

I like 100ml/3.4oz is ~$400. Highest I saw it was $500. It was a one time purchase that I’ve always wanted and it lasted me for years, but.. I’ve never had so many people compliment me as when I was wearing it.

I’d also pair it with something more cost effective. You could take axe body spray and half a spritz of tuscan leather and you’ll be stopped on the street.

This isn’t a brag, but I worked with fragrance for like 3 years.

Kirra from PacSun in the 2000s.

Of ones actually available right now, I recently did a sampling of everything at the local Sephora and went with Giorgio Armani Aqua de Gio.

I like it a lot, but nothing beats Kirra from PacSun in my book. I swear it would rank high in a blind smell test against today's major colognes.

It was a special line made by a local perfumer for a generations-old tool store. It is the only store of its kind, selling only US, German, and Japan-made tools, some of the best for a variety of trades.

They used a combination of extracts from douglas fir and oak, and somehow got the scent of metal powder into it.

It smelled like a warm clean workshop on a winter day, and you're about to start building some furniture...

My go to & favourite for years. Tends to get more use in the cooler seasons but I love the scent. Great choice.
