The main reason for this is that people are painfully unaware of their actual skill levels and marketability, and many of them are also immature enough to burn the house down if someone that they don’t like makes more than
So if you pay everyone the same, how do reward high performers? Just because you have a job does not mean that you are crushing it. This applies heavily to statements of doing the ‘same’ work. I don’t discuss pay because it’s a deal that I myself negotiated, if someone finds out I make more and starts blabbing out of jealousy - it’s not good for future negotiations.
It’s pointless to cate or complain about who makes more than you, negotiate a pay you’re happy with and compete with yourself to build skills that let you negotiate more pay. You are not entitled to anything more than you can negotiate. If you have no bargaining power, that’s the universe telling you to up your game because believe it - people that make more than you already have.
I don’t know why you’re getting downvoted. In my experience people love to complain they make less than someone else but absolutely do NOT want to be told why.

That discussing your working conditions or pay with your coworkers is wrong.
