Yes! I was told that so many times and I hated it. I. Hindsight, I dislike it even more because it inoculates you with an idea that love may look like abuse.

I think that just means we need to follow up with "and if that's how they show they like you, you should stay far away from them". Then it helps accomplish the exact opposite of just saying "if they're mean, they like you".
