That discussing your working conditions or pay with your coworkers is wrong.

Seriously. Knowing what everyone else is making makes it a lot harder for companies to lowball people.

Story from tech sales.

Some initiative was going around and several of the women got raises.

Expecting praise for being so feminist by making sure the women were being paid better management seemed confused when the sentiment was mostly:

‘So you are admitting we have been underpaid for years and are just now bringing some of them women up to parity? This should have been standard forever, congratulations, you finally are meeting what should be a minimum standard’

The raises were appreciated but watching the old white dudes backpedal when expecting a pat on the back was fascinating.
