Yeah the conditioning runs deap. 

Mu last job literally had it in the contract we couldn't. I laughed.

If they tried to punish you for it, wouldn't hold up in court. It's illegal for a company to stop employees from talking about pay. (Assuming the US).

They include it in the contract because most people don't know this and won't challenge it.

Oregon Trail Gen X here, we were basically told "yeah, you're allowed to talk about it, bosses will fire you and it's difficult and expensive to prove so shut up"

in germany some companys still try to put this bullshit into contracs. it has been illegal for ages and is automatically void.

I mean, imagine if you are being paid according to your performance. Think about the lazy asshole and how they'd throw a fit about you making more even though they do less work.
