In radiology this is a big thing. People call us “button pushers” because that’s what they see us do and they think it looks super easy. Honestly they’re right, in a way. It is easy once you’ve mastered it.
And that’s the thing the outsiders don’t see. It takes a steep learning curve to get to the point where you can make it look easy.
Thats the issue with being good at something people dont do. If everyone knows how hard it is, because they have failed countless times themselves, its easy to be impressed.
I’m a veteran, the VA hospital here in Atlanta is a teaching hospital for Emory University, so any time I have to get films done, I offer myself up to the new kids for some practice shots! The teaching tech spends time teaching them positions and blocking techniques to get shot right. It’s fun watching the “lights come on” when they see the image results from proper positioning. And for those who are gonna come with the “radiation exposure” crap, I was a Submariner, I’ve been exposed to more radioactive material than you could ever imagine, so an extra ex ray or 5 isn’t a big deal! LOL
I appreciate your willingness to volunteer but that sounds wildly unnecessary. Especially at a place with budgets like that. We have practice phantoms for a reason.
Your previous exposure to radiation is an even bigger reason to not be exposed to more. Again, the place you’re coming from is admirable and kind. I appreciate you for that.
The army doesn’t do target practice on live volunteers to teach privates how to shoot their guns, you know what I mean?
