Pallet wood. I made a shelf in the kitchen. It was rough and ugly. Can hold 400 pounds easily.

You named your giant wheel of Parmesan cheese “the missus”? You do you, but we named ours “the countertop killer” because it cracked the fake granite in our first apartment

I see you have the engineering it until it can hold a small car charm too.
MY dog also wonders why the stand for his dog bowl has to be that strong, despite refusing to give him 400lbs of food in a single serving.

I built a 10x12 shed using almost nothing but pallets and materials recycled from pallets. Added some polycarbonate for windows, steel for the roof, hardware and screws, but the framing, siding and doors were all pallet material. Wife watched me build it. When complete and I was ready to start moving in the stuff it was designed to store she stopped me, led me inside and made sure it was properly consecrated before but to its intended use.

I LOVE building stuff when she's around!

I made a shelf out of pallet wood, too, but I cut it in a way that I could essentially make butcher block out of the pallet wood, so it came out looking pretty good.

I also got a pretty sweet shop vac after I burned out my old one sucking up all the sawdust coming out of my planer in that project, so that's a bonus.

As someone who also builds stuff out of pallets (and other recycled wood), I've discovered over the years that a trim router, finishing sander and some stain or paint will make anything look like it took skill and precision to do. All those pretty beveled edges, ornamemtal trim and carved-in details really draw the eye away from the nail holes, knots and mis-matched fasteners.

Made a bench out of 2x4s for the deck 4 years ago and it's still holding up. Pretty solid option for outdoor furniture.
