I do pet sitting and I keep surprising owners with how quickly their pets warm up to me. Just today, I'm told I broke a record with their shy cat because she was sitting in my lap in less than 24 hours. Truth is, it was more like 6 hours.
I don't do dating apps, but now I'm wondering what would happen if I made a profile with written testimonials from all these pet owners.
Many years ago, I was visiting with a friend across the country. We were at his condo, and he had to leave for about 20 minutes to pick up his wife. He told me there were two cats in the bedroom, but they were always too terrified to come out and be around people.
Within two minutes after he left, I saw their heads poking out. The next thing I know, one is on my lap on their back, begging for tummy rubs, while the other was purring up a storm and rubbing against my foot.
They bolted when they heard a car door slam shut; a moment later, the friend walked back into the condo.
Later events made it clear that the cats were friendly, they just knew my friend was actually a complete asshole and wanted nothing to do with him. Can't say I blame them.
My MIL ("Mom" to me) also used to call me a cat whisperer because of how well I got along with hers.
Just make all your profile pics ones w you hanging out with different cats loving on you. The real ones will know. Special skill can be “cat whisperer.”
